Striker Roman Bednar believes he can be Albion’s “Special One” – and claims he can be better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Hawthorns hitman has enjoyed a promising opening to his debut season in the Premier League, after scoring three goals in six appearances.
It has given Bednar huge self confidence, to the degree he feels can match the Manchester United superstar.
He said: “I always want to be myself and I think I have something special that no one else has. I know Ronaldo is fast – he scores goals, has a great technique, everything – but I am still a different player and in some ways I can be better than him.
“When the supporters come to our stadium, I think they see something special in me.”
While he enjoys life with Tony Mowbray’s side, he has been left in the international wilderness by the Czech Republic.
The 25-year-old thinks he should have played in the 2-1 defeat to Poland on Saturday and be involved in the game with Slovenia on Wednesday.
He said: “I’m playing in the Premier League, Petr Cech plays, Tomas Rosicky plays and I don’t. I am scoring goals, last year I scored goals – not enough? Come on!”
Czech manager Petr Rada is not his only critic as dad Ivan still harangues hi.
Bednar jnr said: “Dad saw my goal (against Fulham) and he said, ‘why didn’t you kick it fast? The defender was coming.’ I suppose he has made me the way I am.
“He was cold when I was younger, a good dad but not showing his emotions. Now he’s older and I’m older and he talks with me more.”

The quality Bednar brings to us as a frontman whetner it being the “lone role” or as part of the “2 man” are exceptional, the effort and workrate and obviously his goals ratio for us is top notch……but even with all this given choice over a clone for another Bednar or a Clone for another Ronaldo, i’d go for the later.
In all honesty I don’t think it will be too long before Bednar gets a call up for Czech Rep

He’s 2 years older than Ronaldo yet he still can’t get onto the czech squad, plus and hes playing for West brom. Ronaldo’s arguably the best player in the world and he plays for arguably the best club in the world; what igves him the right to even mention himself in the same breath as ronaldo?

Come on guys, everyone needs self belief. I don’t care if he says he’s better or as good as Ronaldo, just as long as he keeps putting the ball in the back of the net.
We all play up our skills or chances, I mean just look at when we played Villa. We all said we would beat them, but, realistically, how many of us were hoping for a draw or a win? I know I was and yes I was telling people we would win.
It’s called physcology and it’s all about putting your opponents off and boosting your own confidence. On another note, I just hope Ish’s confidence is restored soon and he can start getting the goals like he was last year.
