Albion could still find sponsor

Jeremy PeaceChairman Jeremy Peace has claimed Albion could still find a shirt sponsor before the end of the season.

The Baggies have kicked off the campaign with blank-fronted shirts, after potential sponsors failed to meet Peace’s summer asking price for kit branding rights.

Peace revealed that the unique kits had proved a major hit with fans and he insisted there is still a chance that a sponsor could be found before the end of the season.

He said: “The current economic climate won’t help. People will have generally budgeted for their spending.

“But if the right company came along then we wouldn’t rule it out. We’ve got ongoing discussions but it’s a question of whether they come to fruition. If it doesn’t happen this year then fine. We’ll go with someone next year.

“Shirt sales are ahead of target which, given the current climate, is extremely good. They are collector’s items.”

Peace added that the financial impact of not having a sponsor had been extremely limited, as the Baggies had re-sold hospitality packages and advertisement boards that normally formed part of a kit sponsorship deal.

He insisted he had no regrets about turning down summer offers that did not meet his valuation. Van maker LDV and bookmakers Ladbrokes were among the companies who held discussions.

Peace said: “We took a conscious decision as the sponsorship of a Premier League club gave access to about 600 million people worldwide. There was a price at which we would do a deal and a price at which we wouldn’t.

“I felt very strongly about that. We had a number of companies who came to us who could play a certain price but not an international price.

“We wanted to bring in another international company of the T-Mobile ilk and then it would work for them. They would get international exposure to the Premier League and we would get sponsorship.”

Shrewd man, Glad he’s our chairman. We are a solid business behind an up and coming team. For all those who slated the man in the past, hang your heads!!!

For this saturday’s game, it would be a very fitting gesture to have a Cancer related sponsor for our hero Geoff Horsfield.

    Boing Boing
    Good luck Geoff

I feel as we do not have one we could let a charity use it for free until a suitable offer comes along. But maybe i am just being wishy washy

Definately Saturday’s shirt sponsor should be a Charity of Geoff’s choice.

    All the best Geoff

I still think they are holding out for tesco!

Seriously though i know it’s all about income but the kits do look better without. Refreshing change i think.

    Good luck to Geoff

Great man this Chairman! sometime makes me angry but on the whole hes steel. BTW are we the only club to make profit in the UK?

I agree with Wolfmeister, I think the shirts look really good without any logo.

What makes me laugh is the offer made at the beginning of the season to have new logos printed on the front whenever a deal is struck for free!

Great! Turn yourself into a walking advertising hoarding by paying your own travel costs to get to the slave/branding station. Have we all turned into such major suckers?

I agree, the shirts look much much better without a sponsor. The amount of comments I’ve got from supporters of other clubs saying the same thing is astounding. Wouldn’t a deal only be another £1million in the kitty anyway - surely that’s nothing in comparison to the money made from being and staying in the Premier League?

They look a load better without the sponsor….even if we do get a new sponsor I wouldn’t have it put on my strip anyway.

I think we should scrap the sponsor for this year and concentrate on the job at hand, and only next season begin to look for a solid sponsor, plus everyone ive spoke to have said they prefer the shirt without a sponsor.

Stuff the sponsors, I like my shirt better without the horrible pink blotch of t-mobile or any other sponsor, well, maybe playboy or spearmint rhino lol. Seriously tho, its true, the amount of other fans that like our shirts is quite impressive, maybe in the future we could have a choice of ponsorless shirt or not.
