Kightly aims for quick return

Michael Kightly remains bang on course to complete an ahead-of-schedule comeback next weekend.

And that will be the best possible news for a Wolves squad desperate to get out of their system the two-game fall from grace before the international break.

Key-man Kightly was originally ruled out for longer after suffering a pulled hamstring against Reading, but Steve Kemp, the head of the club’s medical department, reports swift progress from the England under- 21 star.

Kightly is already back out on the training ground at Compton and Kemp says: “Michael’s responding to treatment well and is outside running and progressing well, so, fingers crossed, he should be back in full training in time for the Coventry game.”

That will be just what Wolves need to hear after those back-to-back defeats by Reading and Swansea added pressure to the comeback derby against Coventry at Molineux a week today.

“You want to be top of the league,” says defender Neill Collins.

“Everyone says you don’t look at the league table too much in terms of thinking you’re going to get promoted and that’s right.

“But we enjoyed being top and if you told me we’d be top of the table all the way through the season I’d take that! The longer we’d stayed top of the league the better we’d have done, so obviously we are going to try and get back there.

“It’s annoying because even if we could have taken a point at Swansea we’d have been top of the league.

“The international break is good in terms of getting players back and fit but by the same token footballers are desperate to go out and prove people wrong after a bad result.”

But Collins believes Coventry will face a Wolves team a little wiser for the experience gleaned from those two defeats following seven successive victories.

He added:  “With each defeat you always look at it and think about what went wrong. It has made us more determined not to let it happen again. Often you learn more from a defeat than you do a victory. We’ve learned a lot from the last two games.”

Pleased to hear Kites is close to returning to full fitness, once we have most of the injured players available we should get back on track, still think we need to sort out the defence, maybe giving shackell a full debut.

I just hope he’s not being rushed back like last season. I’ve had a hamstring injury, it hurt like hell and took longer than a month to heel. But then I’m not a professional so….

So, Neil, given that you learn from every defeat, I presume after the Reading match that the team got together and agreed that they had to concentrate more from the first whistle so that they did’t give away any soft, early goals!

Loved your incisive comment, Molly …..but

A little more viciousness and a lot more bite, if you please.

We are the dogheads after all and our bark has been worse than our bite for too long.

Hopefully he doesnt rush back. We need him to be fit in the long term, not just for the next game.

Collins is rubbish. If he wants to be top of the league he should play at a level more suited to his talent, i.e. the Blue Square Premier.

OOhhh Touchy Comment 14 & 19. I have obvious struck a nerve with you. Nothing to be ashamed of. Go back to colouring with your crayon little boy and leave the grown up conversations to like minded adults who have Wolves to their hearts. For the sake of a player who has started off like a house on fire and is vilified by these so called “experts” its muppets like you who is the disease this club breeds. One mistake by our talisman striker and its Micks got to go. STUPID FOOL!
