Wolves stars on the big stage

charlton-vokes-second.jpegWolves are poised to celebrate a notable international double this weekend as striker Sam Vokes prepares to lead the Wales attack.

Vokes is expected to front his nation’s forward line tomorrow in their World Cup qualifier with Liechtenstein at the Millennium Stadium.

All the signs are that the 18-year-old will be leading his nation into battle, just hours after his senior club partner Chris Iwelumo has done the same for Scotland.

It promises to make it a special day for the Molineux club, which has been brought to a virtual standstill this week by no fewer than 11 players dispatched for international duty.

Vokes, who is forging quite a reputation for himself in the Valleys, is revelling at his place in the roll call of international honours.

He said: “It’s been a massive six months for me but I have just tried to take things in my stride really.

“Since I moved to Wolves I think I have improved as a player and to come into the senior side now with Wales gives you bags of experience. There’s a fantastic tradition of big strikers at Wolves and a lot of expectation around the place.

Vokes made an immediate impact with a goal as a substitute in his first World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan. before starting for the first time in an impressive Welsh performance in Russia.

Now he is set to partner Premier League star Craig Bellamy in a game in which the pressure will be on the Welsh to win – and win well.

Hope he does well and scores against Lichtenstein so he gets the chance to play against Germany. What a start to an International career! Go Vokesy!

Baggy 1, suddenly active; what woke you up? Most Wolves fans appreciate S Ward’s first rate attitude and rate him as a fairly good player despite his having to play out of position to some extent last year for the sake of the team. Left wing is not his best position in comparison to Jarvis. People in general seek scapegoats when things go wrong and we have had more than our fair share of ups and downs over the last twenty-five years. If things go wrong for your team, and I hope they wont, Which players do you think your moronic element will blame?

9 & 10 . eloquent though you may think you are there is a certain lack of individuality in your statements.
perhaps all you baggy fans are cloned from the same stick, because all we hear is the same old rubbish.
Have an away day, and once in a while pop to the library to borrow a book.
