Wolves boss wants repeat

trainwolv.jpgMick McCarthy will welcome back his internationals next week by demanding a repeat performance over the next batch of 10 games.

McCarthy has been taking stock of a campaign given an electric start by Wolves’ free-scoring, seven-game winning streak, but then tempered by the back-to-back losses against Reading and Swansea.

Those hiccups, completed by the loss of top spot to Birmingham last Saturday night, have not lessened McCarthy’s praise for his team’s efforts.

He said: “Let’s just hope we take 22 from the next 10 games as well – we’d certainly take that right now.

“As I’ve always said it’s never a matter of how or when you get the points – it’s about putting them on the board. I’m very pleased with the amount we’ve picked up so far.

“We’ve got this break now but everyone is looking forward to getting some of our players back in and starting again.

“Of course we are disappointed after the last two results - but certainly not despondent.”

McCarthy hopes three of his ‘front four’ missing at Swansea will be available for the next match – the home derby with Coventry – in Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Chris Iwelumo and Michael Kightly.

He also believes there were “mitigating factors” in the two defeats.

He said: “First of all against Reading we go a goal down after four minutes, lose one of our best players in the first half and then another in the second.

“We then head to Swansea still confident we could get something - and end up conceding a goal after 25 seconds.

“Yes, I was disappointed with their last two goals, because we should never have allowed them to happen. We were missing four of our best players.”

Quite right Mick. With those four up front they put more pressure on the opposition meaning they have to keep more men back and they have to foucus on defending more. That takes the pressure off our back four. Defending starts from the front! Looking forward to seeing our quartet (C.Edwards instead of Jarvis for now)back against Freddy Eastwood’s team lol.

With the mighty triumvirate of Kites, SEB and Big Chris back in the ranks, here’s hoping for a fine victory against the bin-dipping chavs of Godivashire!! Reportedly, he that shall not be named may not be fit to play for Coventry, although no doubt we’ll have a handful of our knucklehead supporters chanting his name like he’s some sort of demi-god anyway! Another Neill Collins header in the last minute would do me nicely, as long as it gets us the 3 points…

it was the forward line out injured but the defence who went awol after 25 seconds, when will he face facts and admit the defence as a unit is not promotion class,if players as a squad are not good enough use the loan market, but try shackell from the start.

A great start. As I have said earlier this week, most sides will find it difficult at Swansea in any case - and we had all our leading attacking threats out!
Reading are a different proposition and at this stage I reckon they are the team to be wary of.
Letting in 6 in 2 games, we need to freshen up the back line!

we had 8 injured 1st team players including long term injuries aswell. with the 3 back i would be happy with 18 points from the next 10 games. that will see us back top.

Many of the Reading team were seasoned Premiership players, and I’m not surprised we had our bottoms spanked. However, our young, relatively inexperienced team should have gained a valuable experience from the encounter, and hopefully we can do better next time.

Coventry are there for the taking, looking forward to a good result to put us back on course.

i did say at the begining of the season that mm needed to have a plan !B! for when kite and jarvis gets injuried for then we would start losing and thats has happenened think that he will have one for the next time don,t think so because he is too stubborn ,we need a plan !B +plan C! for when we play teams like reading blues Qpr etc when they close down quick and have two players on the wingers when they have the ball cause these teams now thats where and how we play ,close the wingers down quick and play high up the field and wolves are clueless get it sorted mm

I see that Collins takes the blame again. He was not the worst on the night against Reading or on the day against Swansea. Still, don’t let bias get in the way of facts. He is, after all, an easy target and whipping boy. Last season he was not great, but has stepped up his game dramatically this season.
