Outline plans for over 100 homes shelved

Outline plans which could see more than 100 homes built in Walsall have been deferred by planning chiefs.

The plans for land at Thomas Street and Birchills Street, Birchills, were shelved at a meeting of Walsall Council’s development control committee last night.

Councillors want the applicants to rethink the application and resubmit new proposals saying the proposed site isn’t capable of accommodating that many homes.

The application is currently for outline permission for 103 homes with a mixture of both flats and houses. The plans have been submitted by Dawkins Development Limited.

Nine letters of objection have been sent to the council regarding the plans and residents claimed it would have an impact on them.

Planning officers recommended the proposals be refused saying the site was not capable of accommodating the amount of homes that are being requested.

Councillor Mike Bird, chairman of the development control committee, said: “This is something we should support but at this stage we need the applicants to go back and look at the plans.

“The site simply couldn’t accommodate 103 homes and I realise it is only outline plans at this stage but the plans do need to be changed.

“Then we may look at the possibility of supporting the plans.”

Councillors agreed to defer the plans so the applicants can look at making changes.
