Michael Gray is confident newcomer Carlos Edwards will bring a major input into Wolves’ promotion drive when he has settled at Molineux.
The on-loan Sunderland winger is in the thick of a hectic schedule which saw him rushed down for a debut in defeat at Swansea on Saturday before taking off to fulfil international duties with Trinidad and Tobago.
It means Edwards will still be a virtual stranger in the Wolves camp by the time the next game is staged at home to Coventry a week on Saturday.
And Gray, a big admirer of the player, is tipping Edwards to eventually make a serious impact.
“The manager tried to sort it out quickly after the injuries and brought Carlos in,” he said. “He’s tried and tested in this league and he’s definitely a talented player.
“We’d only seen him train once before Saturday but we’ve seen him enough of him to know he’s direct and pacy.
“I didn’t play with him, but during Sunderland’s promotion season, I saw a lot of them on TV and he scored some cracking goals.
“He’s very direct, and certainly a player that will fit into the squad really well.
“He’s already fitted into the dressing room – he’s a nice, bubbly lad and that’s what you want.”
Gray’s role in the campaign has been minimal so far with illness keeping him out on Saturday.
He is hoping the two defeats in the last two games do not dampen the enthusiasm and excitement Mick McCarthy’s side has been generating.
“The morale around the place is fantastic,” added Gray.
* Backroom man Mark James has added to the club’s international call-ups after being drafted into the England Under-21 set-up.
With more than 20 years experience as a masseur and 13 years in professional football, James worked with England’s senior squad at Euro 96 and Arsenal’s double winners of 1997/98.
