Carson thanks Baggies for recall

wd295050289-wms-wba-carson.jpgScott Carson today spoke of his pride at flying the Albion flag in the England squad – and thanked the Baggies for propelling him back into Fabio Capello’s plans.

Carson linked up with England yesterday after a fine start to his Albion career earned him a recall after a nine-month absence.

And the goalkeeper, who would become the club’s first England international for 23 years if he figured next week, hailed the influence of the Baggies set-up and goalkeeping coach Joe Corrigan.

“I’m delighted to be back involved with the England squad,” said the £3.25m summer signing. “I’ve played seven games now for the Baggies and things have gone really well.

“If you’re not playing well for your club then you’re not going to have a chance of getting in the England squad. All I’ve been doing is concentrating on doing well for Albion.

“I’ve always said if England came along it would be great.

“I’m really proud to be representing Albion in an England squad.

“There have been some great players who have played for West Brom. To be the first permanent Albion player in a long time to break into an England squad is a great privilege.

“I’m just going to get my head down in the England set-up and work hard.

“I’m just going to enjoy it. I want to take my form and confidence from Albion and keep it going with England.”

And Carson paid tribute to the work of nine-cap England international Corrigan and veteran Ireland international Dean Kiely, who lost his place to the new signing at the start of the season.

“Since I joined Joe Corrigan has been working us really hard and I felt at home from the first week,” said Carson.

“I felt really good about my game and it’s continued.

“Joe has played a massive part in my form. He works us hard but that’s what I like.

“I like coming off the training ground and feeling as if I’ve earned my money. He’s been great.

“He’s given me a lot of confidence and I think that has shown in the games I’ve played.

“Deano’s a top keeper and a great pro.”
