Albion blog: Back to back

wd3086958albion-32-sl-04.jpgI couldn’t attend the game on Saturday due to personal reasons so I watched the game online and was overjoyed with another three points, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.

Certain players are really starting to find their feet at this level and none more so than Roman Bednar.

Yes he missed a few half chances, and we know he does not possess blistering pace, but the skills he does have in his locker he uses very, very well.

He runs the channels, he holds the ball up well, his distribution is good, and even more importantly he has a great deal of hunger to score goals.

Another player quickly adapting to life in the Premier League is Borja Valero, his passing is sublime, and as he adapts to the physicality of England’s top league he will get even better.

The defensive unit yet again produced another clean sheet, amazing really when you think how few games the back five have played together. Donk and Olsson have quickly struck up an understanding, possibly made easier by the fact they already had knowledge and experience of each others game in Holland, and with the ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL Scott Carson producing superb performance after superb performance it is all looking rather good.

carson will never wear an england shirt however bad things get, aslong as he is at westbrom, his career has nosedived.

Oh well we all get things wrong from time to time laughingwolf, some more than others.

Young Scott deserves to be back in the squad, he has been brilliant so far this season. He made an awful error playing for England, but so did Beckham I seem to recall, and the only way to win the backing of the fans is by getting the chance to put things right. I hope he gets it, it also dismisses the commonly held notion that players playing for so called unfashionable clubs will not get called up for England. Fabio is obviously his own man and not scared to make important decisions, even if unpopular with the boo boys.

Seven games into the season and I am overjoyed at the start we have made, the defence looks good enough, the midfield looks good enough, and the strikers have shown glimpses of finding their feet.

Nearly three months away from the transfer window opening and already the media are circulating stories of transfer interest. I assume that our main interest will be in signing another striker, and generally gaining greater depth to our squad.

It seems Premier League managers are prepared to spend big to find that elusive striker who will score you upwards of 15 goals a season, yet I have seen some very expensive summer buys look very ordinary albeit with the season in its infancy.

Dave Kitson £5.5m

Roman Pavlyuchenko £14m

Afonso Alves £12m

Andrew Johnson £11m

Let’s just leave it to Mowbray to unearth another gem!!!!

Finally I would like to thank Beevower, Happy Baggie, The Hoff, Nedball, and Nathan Lloyd for your sponsorship donation. For those who did not see my blog on Friday, I am rowing 34k (The equivalent of crossing the Channel) for a childrens charity on the 25th October (Home Start UK). If anyone else is kind enough to want to sponsor me you can do so online at

www.justgiving.com/jarrodhill

Many Thanks

Jarrod, I am in agreement with the bulk of your Blog, as is the norm, though for once I choose to push back.

I find the need to bring in prior comments from others detracts from the otherwise positive message that you always strive to bring into your Blogs.

We each of us all already have the power, if we so choose, to enter debate & comment critically on specific postings from other individuals. We do this via these email comments.

My sense is that the strength of your Blog is that it permits you to push a good message broadly to all. However, that strength is diminished when in contrast, you focus that message on only a few.

Just like our Baggies, we offer much more attractive viewing when we “play the ball”, not the “man”.

That said, I’m sure my comments will be taken in the positive spirit that you normally entertain constructive feedback.

Thanks again for the read, and do keep up giving us an inside track with such positive spirit.

bomber, great blog. I like the sense of humour too. Like you i feel we are looking very positive, and are sitting in the league where we are because we deserve it. I wonder how many internationals we shall have by the end of the season. Om another note i have tried once again to donate and ive been rejected again. can i give it to you personally. Ill give you £10, but ill double it if we beat Man utd

Sorry i couldnt help myself, i hope laughingwolf sees it in the way it was intended, as a bit of fun. Similar to the way i have pointed out my own glaring errors in blogs.
The main discussion point of the blog was regarding strikers and the exorbetent prices paid for what i would describe as average players.

Originally you said you would double it if i did it in fancy dress, so if we beat Man U and i complete the row in fancy dress does that make £40??
The only problem i have with taking cash donations is that the charity do not get the gift aid donation from the government on top.
There is plenty of time, the training is going great, i have blistered hands and a bum that needs a nice soft cushion, on top of that people are starting to complain at the gym that im hogging the rower!!!
Wish id have said i would row the equivalent distance of crossing the canal rather than the channel!!!!

    ‘Bomber,

Sure and I can understand – an easy shot to take ;-)

As an old Pope once said, I guess we are all allowed a few indulgences, even me …

1 - He was only having a joke about Shadrags’ post, and believe me, if we EVER say anything that proves to be wrong, Shadrag lets us know!!
10 points from our last 5 matches….just ask MM, you’ll win the league with form like that!!

If you need any training tips speak to my dad (Hilltop), not that he will be able to help you, but he will put you in touch with me. I have a bit of experience when it comes to training for endurance events! I’ve sponsored you as an incentive!

Great blog by the way - Saturdy did prove me wrong when i said that Valero and Greening couldn’t play together, they can. I still prefer Valero further forward (like the 2nd half) where he can hurt teams.

I know mate, i think ill just take the £10 (as i dont fancy rowing 34k as batman).

    Great Barr Baggie

Thanks for the sponsorship mate, are you ready to see your dad on the video blog today??
As for the training tips, the fitness side isnt too much of a problem, its the wear and tear on my hands and gluteus maximus!!

good blog as usual jarrod,,bedner the beast is certainly looking mean and hungry for goals and looks good at this level,,as for young ish i feel all he needs is a goal and hed be up and running, same with moore..im sure the goals will come in the near future..if we can stay above the relegation area come jan i think a new striker is our number one priority and would expect to spend big,,so far so good and we are still playing in the mowbray style and im lovin every minute, worth the season ticket just to watch young zoo-ver-loon..MOWBRAYS DUTCHIE BOYS DOING THE BIZZ,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOOOOOOH YES..

  11. Nedball said:

8 - Still got more chance of beating them in the league than you lot have aint we?!

With our defence playing like it is at the minute, playing Man U will be as easy as DONKING for Apples!!

  12. Happy_baggie said:

Hiya Bomber - you could do a whole blog, maybe even a whole series of blogs using LW’s quotes and showing how he managed to be stupendously wrong… but we all know that anyway.

I posted recently that if Carson didn’t make the squad I would write off England as a team for southerners to support…. I’m pleased to still be able to follow my national team.

You are bang on about the high priced forwards in the prem who so far have not lived up to their price tag. Luke Moore gets stick here at £3 million - can you imagine if we had brought andy johnson ???

I think we will definately see some additions (and deletions) come january - and who would back against ToMo finding the 15/20 goals for under 5 million ??

Finally raythewilf - yes its unlikely that we will beat man Utd - but i think we have far more chance than you doing it - what with you being in the wrong league and all……. some people just never learn do they.

Is it TIME FOR laTEEf to make the jump to the first team squad? He has been paying really well in the under 18 games by all accounts and has banged in 6 goals in 4 matches. A pacey striker in the KP mould he might be. Worth a try? Everton gave Rooney his chance. coming on as a sub may just work. Anyone seen this guy play ?

    13. He who laughs last laughs loudest, you may be laughing now but your up-coming fixtures will certainly wipe the smile off your grid, lets see where you are at the end of November and let’s see if you’re laughing so much then.

  16. DebenhamWolf said:

Some great results, Baggies, and keep it up.I said Carson was a great buy; some people do not realise how young he is. With regard to our wind-up merchants, I’m hoping we are both smiling with satisfaction come May ‘09. There’ll probably be plenty of ups and downs for both teams before the end of the season.

  17. beevower said:

    15. Whatever Wolves 1877! We’ve been hearing your lot go on about how we’ll be the worst ever premiership team, we’ll get less points than Derby, you’re gonna walk the league title this year blah blah blah……..

The fact is fella - we’ve been laughing at your lot for years now………..you lot are the joke!

Now run along back to your fizzy pop league you silly little man.

  18. Nedball said:

15 - No matter what happens in November, I think that come May, we’ll still be laughing!!
I may be wrong, but I have been confident of staying up all season….we won’t finish as high as we are currently, but we’ll be above the bottom 3.

    Normandy Baggie

I saw him play at Shrewsbury in pre season, a very busy player with a lot of energy. Small in stature but not afraid, good touch and a very good shot.
I was only discussing the other day how poorly we have done in bringing through youth players, however the higher you are in term of league the harder it is.

Morning great barr, your still not too big for a clip round the ear !!!!. as for endurance, heidi says your not all that lol. Its great to see the dark side still trying (unsucessfully) to have a dig. Just accept that for the moment and certainly the recent past you have been in our shadow, and concentrate on backing your own team.

  22. WakeyBaggie said:

If anyone can unearth a diamond for under £5M ToMo can. To be honest we are surpassing my expectations at present and whilst we can expect little from Man U and Liverpool coming up we have home games against Hull and Blackburn that are winnable. Come on boys keep it up.

Great blog Jarrod, though I agree with #1, no need to drag up quotes from laughing wolf, if you start pointing it out everytime this no-mark is proved wrong then it could get a little tedious.
