The youngster, named locally as Matthew Davies, was struck by a car on the main Stafford Road through Wolverhampton during rush hour.

Traffic backed up as police closed off the road and diverted motorists down nearby Oxley Moor Road after yesterday’s drama, at around 4.45pm.

Matthew’s bike was shattered by the force of the impact.

Keith Evans, manager of nearby Highway Autos car firm on Stafford Road, said: ìHe went under the car and was more or less spat out the other end. It was nasty.”

Insp Paul Richards, of Wednesfield police, said the youngster had suffered minor injuries and had been sitting up in his hospital bed.

Witnesses should contact officers at the road policing unit on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
