Henry fumes at horror show

burn-henry.jpegCaptain Karl Henry pulled no punches in his assessment of Wolves’ start against Swansea after branding it “rubbish” and “an absolute joke.”

Injury-ravaged Wolves gave themselves an uphill battle after conceding Jordi Gomez’s opener after just 25 seconds.

Henry admitted it was their worst display of the season.

He said: “We had a terrible start – it was rubbish. I don’t think any of us imagined we’d be 1-0 down inside the first minute.

“It was an absolute joke. It was no way to start the game. We gave the ball away, it zipped off the surface, they broke and scored.

“We pulled it back to 1-1, but even then they were still having chances and it was a poor performance, so we’re disappointed.

“Last Tuesday when we lost 3-0, I think most people would agree it was never a 3-0 game. On Saturday we were poor and they looked like scoring more. It was definitely our worst performance of the season – no doubt about it.

“Individually and collectively, there were too many errors. We weren’t at it, it was a bad day at the office and we were punished.”

Wolves were without eight players, including their first-choice ‘front four’, but Henry refused to blame the defeat on the missing key men.

He said: “We’ve had key players out, but with the players we had on Saturday, we’ve got enough to go to Swansea and get something.

“We didn’t pass the ball well, we couldn’t get near them and defensively, there were errors all over the pitch. They limited us to half chances. It was just a dour day.

“We worked hard – everyone gave their all – but there were too many mistakes and things weren’t right.

“You can cope with a couple of players making mistakes but when the majority of the team were making errors – defensively and offensively – you get punished.”

George Friend, one of two debutants with Carlos Edwards, admitted it was a testing day.

The left-back said: “It was a tough game and we always knew it was going to be tough. I started off at left-back and then moved further upfield as an attacking left-sided midfielder.

“‘Wardy’ has done brilliantly at left-back and they were very physical with the three up front. He dealt with that superbly.

“Because of the amount of injuries and with Mickey Gray falling ill over the weekend, there was only really me or ‘Wardy’ who could play at left midfield. I thought I did OK. I know I can play a lot better but I worked hard.”

Friend insisted he had no problem playing left midfield, rather than his favoured left-back role, which he quickly moved on as Stephen Ward reverted to left-back.

The 20-year-old said: “When I was younger I played there a bit for Exeter, but I mainly played at left-back. I’m just happy to be on the field, so I’m not going to moan about playing left midfield.

“For me, playing there gives me a lot of freedom to link up and play which I enjoy doing.”

Friend believes Wolves were inspired to come out fighting after conceding in the first 25 seconds.

He said: “When you concede as early as that, it fires you up and we got the equaliser. It was just sad we couldn’t hold out until half-time.”

The worst thing about bein a wolves fan is not watchin the team play poorly but listening to other wolves fans moan about it!!!

I’ve read a number of different comments since Sat on the E&S forums & most have been nonsense!!! I read 1 that simple said “season over”…….. WOT!! Season over!! wot other football fan 4 another club wud be that stupid to make that claim after just 2 defeats all season!!

Yes it was a poor result Sat, even with the team we played a point shud of been won at least!! BUT we were missin 4 of our main attacking threats! The 4 men that av really made a difference this season!! But still theres no need 4 doom & gloom yet!! Reading was a bad game but only cause in the end we lost that game to bad tactics not bad football!! Take out the teams main threat take out the team!! & that’s wot Reading did! Took out jarvo kites & SEB which left Jones & Keogh with no one 2 pass 2 & forced Henry to attack more, which we all kno isn’t 1 of his strongest qualities, that meant we were more exposed at the bak!!

Just gotta keep the faith! The games we won so far weren’t lucky results! We won them cause we played well! We’ve shown that on our day we can out play any1!! Just need to get rid of Collins & tighten up the bak 4! We’re still 2nd with players on their way bak to the 1st team! & 2 weeks off for newer players to settle in!!

    Rant well & truly over!!!

    Up the wolves!!!

Thank God I got my tenner. Normal service has been resumed. I suppose we can look forward to Kites, SEB et al going in January when we are back in our rightful mid table position.

felt sorry for him , he looked off the pace and out of his depth, yet we send daniel jones 2years older with a lot more experience at this level out on loan the same weekend, what do our home grown players have to do to get a kick

What is Friend talking about? for those of us that were there would you agree that he was woeful and didnt look match fit??

Going a goal down inspired us!! What nonsense. If he’d of defended properly we wouldnt of let one in after 25 seconds.

I ay so sure about this kid.

Interesting this about only Wardy and George Friend being available who can play left midfield. I can’t understand why we sent young Dan Jones out on loan after Jarvo was injured. He’s always done well when he’s started in the first team and I can’t understand why we sent him out in the circumstances we were in, with Jarvo, George and Matt Hill all left footed players injured.

Logic says-Why was Mr H dropped because of one game-Surely in Wales infront of his COUNTRYMEN he would be more likely to shine for us-Will he play for Wales next week-Yes of course he will-He has many failing but is a young promising professional he should have played–Explain please am I missing something here-Lots of stories about WH needing a rest-He needs to play and work on coming of his goal-line and claiming the ball-Come on Mr Mentor give him some encouragement-Don’t drop him—–A bad day at the office thanks for the feedback see you all at the Cov game “Should be a little more interesting” I think–Crazey Dave

I always read with interest the comments that are made on this site. Some are funny, some are succinct some are depressing, but please Sir Jack (no3)I really hope that you are Baggy in disguise as your comments are appalling. Don’t bother coming onto this site again if that is the only comment that you can muster. A poor display on Saturday, we have a break now and hopefully the majority of the ‘front four’ will be back against Coventry. Yes, granted, this display does show that perhaps we don’t have the ’strength in depth’ as we first thought, but my god man, we’re not even a quarter of the way through the season yet, so at least show a little more positive attitude to give us at least a fighting chance. I sincerely hope that you are not one of the countless number of Boo Boys who become so destructively vocal as soon as things go slightly wrong!!!!!

well said no 2. We’ve had a fantastic start to the season which I thought would be enough to lift some of the doom around molineux. Lets give MM and the players some credit. I really believe that the club is really pushing for promotion this season and you can see that with the loan signing of Edwards as we are short of wide men. Last season they would have just put makeshifts like ward on the wing.Apart from last week the perfomances have been good. Molineux is not an easy place to come to when the crowd are really behind the home team.

I agree with Wolf Boy(2) and John (12). Let’s give the lads credit for their showing over 10 games, not stick for one.

Swansea was one match I could get to and, as for Friend, I thought he looked out of his depth both at the back and in midfield. But he never gave up and, despite the poor display, most of the team gave everything.

Poor Andy Keogh - he gets loadsa stick on this site, but I thought he ran his socks off at Swansea and I felt really sorry for him. I couldn’t understand why Vokes was left on the bench for so long, though.

Let’s hope we get Hennessey, Kites, SEB and Big Chris back for Coventry and then I’m sure we’ll be OK.
