Boss warning for star Zuiverloon

Wednesday 1st October 2008, 11:40AM BST.

wd2901297albion-8-dh-3.jpgAlbion manager Tony Mowbray has warned man-of-the-moment Gianni Zuiverloon that his toughest Premier League tests are still to come.

The Dutch full-back’s performances since his £3.2million summer arrival have made him the early star of the Baggies’ Premier League return.

Yet Mowbray insists a first setback in England will provide the sternest test of the 21-year-old’s mettle.

The Baggies boss said: “His game is clicking in and he sees the bigger picture at the moment. I am pleased for him, but there will be bigger tests along the line where we have to see how he reacts.

“After a poor day when Wayne Rooney gives him a hard time, or Cristiano Ronaldo turns him inside out. We will see how he reacts and that is the bigger picture some way down the line and a test of how good he can be.

“You try to identify talent and bring it in but what you don’t really know about is his personality. You see his personality on the field but I didn’t really know his personality around the building.

“We can see now he has a great desire to learn and he wants to please and do what you ask him to do. He is an asset-rich footballer with mobility, quick feet, great spring and good passing ability.

“He has the assets and if he can put them together he is a good player.”

Mowbray has also urged another Dutchman, winger Sherjill MacDonald, to tap into his own potential by following Zuiverloon’s example.

The Albion manager said: “Sherjill has got the assets but at this moment they don’t click into place.

“He can be like Ryan Babel of Liverpool. He is as fast and as talented with his feet but it doesn’t quite click into place, whereas Gianni’s game is clicking into gear.”

I love TM to bits, but no-way doess Sherjill have the potential to be as good as Ryan Babel…

I admit I do see something there with Sherjill and i’m glad we kept him on, as i see him as essentially a premiership Lloyd Dyer…but hes nothing compared to Babel

    1. I take it from your comment you think WBA lack ambition by selling players to Fulham. Just like to point out that Gera wasn’t sold.

Zuiverloon, wow what a player. Can’t quite believe what I’ve been seeing, he really is that good isn’t he?

na you didnt sell him he decided to go to a bigger club who will stay up. at the moment the majority of the clubs behind albion in the table will easily finish above them sides like spurs. you will come down no doubt about it. great being the top scorers in english football, being top of the league and hey we have had 1 set back due to injuries but like all great clubs were bounce back

zuiverloon will get even better, but in holland it is donk who they’re really raving about. when he settles into the english game we’ve got a real class act. rijkaard, cruyff and gullit have all said the kid will be special. we’ve got first dibs on him and he wants to stay too. these are very exciting times and believe me if we get trejo you’ll be thinking we’re watching the old ajax team. FOREVER ALBION

Who said Ronaldo and Rooney are going to turn him inside out?? He’s a Dutch U21 at mo but is obviously getting groomed to be the next right back so at this stage he is in great shape and playing Ronaldo / Rooney or anyone in the Prem will be great! I think this boy is top drawer and will cope! Great find and has been our best player so far this season for me!!

I see the clown’s back! The 1st decent team you’ve played and you got mauled! You’ll stay in the Chumpionship this season no doubt. Most of the teams below you like QPR are much better than you lot and have squads capabale of still playing well even when they get a few injuries. You’re a 2nd rate play off team at best and now you’ve been found out other teams will take you apart.

You know what pal, the next time you’re at home on your own why don’t you dig your grubby little mits down the back of the sofa and see if you can pull out a life eh?
