Kelly has the starring role in a four-week run of the classic play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Garrick theatre.
He and the rest of the cast - including Hollyoaks and Howard’s Way star Tracey Childs - took a break from rehearsals in London to spend the day in Lichfield yesterday.
An associate artist with the Lichfield Garrick Rep Company, Kelly said he was thrilled to finally be taking to the stage at the theatre in Castle Dyke.
“I really love this theatre, I’ve been to see stuff here in the past and I’ve always wanted to do something myself at the Garrick. In particular I wanted to do something in the Garrick Studio, which is a more intimate space.”
According to the actor, the small Studio lends itself perfectly to the claustrophobic atmosphere of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, in which all the action takes place over one evening inside the home of couple George and Martha as they entertain young guests Nick and Honey.
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? runs at the Garrick from October 7 until November 1. To book call the box office on 01543 412121.
