A 44-year-old man has been violently stabbed to death in a quiet Lichfield cul-de-sac.
Detectives were today continuing to investigate the scene of the killing, in Burwaye Close, Lichfield, where the man was found with a single stab wound to the chest.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 6.25pm last night after neighbours reported seeing a man collapse in a pool of blood outside a block of flats as children played nearby.
The man, thought to be from Lichfield, was taken to Good Hope Hospital, in Sutton Coldfield but died a short time later.
A 35-year-old woman, thought to be a resident on the ground floor of the flats, was taken to Queens Hospital in Burton-upon-Trent with serious knife wounds to her hands.
She was later arrested in connection with the death.
Burwaye Close was sealed off by forensic experts who carried out a detailed examination of the flat and pavement where the man was found.
Scenes of crime officers are believed to have recovered a knife from a bin near to where the man collapsed.
