A man was stabbed to death in a quiet Lichfield cul-de-sac at teatime, as children played nearby. The 44-year-old was found in the street with one stab wound in the chest.
Police and paramedics were called to Burwaye Close at around 6.25 last night after neighbours reported seeing a man collapse in a pool of blood outside a block of flats.
The man, thought to be from Lichfield, was taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield but died a short time later.
A 35-year-old woman, said to be a resident of one of the flats, was taken to Queens Hospital in Burton upon Trent with serious knife wounds to her hands.
She was later arrested in connection with the death.
A post mortem on the man, who has not been formally identified, was due to take place this afternoon.
Burwaye Close was shut off. Scenes of crime officers are believed to have found a knife in a bin near where the man was found.
Neighbours last night told of their shock and described the valiant efforts of eyewitnesses to save the man’s life. A trainee doctor and nurse who live opposite the flat tried to resuscitate him.
