Kick up the backside due - boss

mickshouts4.jpgMick McCarthy has warned Wolves they are due a kick up the backside as he revealed how he’s ‘a constant thorn’ in their sides.

Table-topping Wolves go into Saturday’s 12.30pm clash against Bristol City on the brink of their best start since 1949-50 after six successive wins.

The Molineux chief insists his players can’t afford to take their foot off the gas.

He said: “We’re not suddenly having days off or coming in late – the standards haven’t dropped. You keep doing the same things – win, lose or draw – and I really try to be a constant thorn in their side.

“I’m enjoying it but you won’t get me waxing lyrically about it. As a football manager who’s been in the game a long time and as someone who’s been in this league, I know a kick up the backside is just around the corner.

“We will get one – no question – but it’s how we all react to that. I just hope it doesn’t happen to us soon because we’re enjoying the run we’re on.”

McCarthy is speaking from experience as he won the Championship at Sunderland, after picking up five points from the first six games.

He said: “We won that league by eight points, but we were 11 points behind Wigan at one stage, so we had a turnaround of 19 points.

“So that’s my concern. Just because we’re in a better position at the moment, there will be someone down the bottom such as Derby, whose mentality will be one of wanting claw points back.

“If they get on a roll, who’s to say someone else can’t get six wins from six games?”

I agree. We cannot be complacent. If we can win these next 2 home games, though, will be a great boost - as these 2 teams are potential challengers!
It’s a squad game, so people like Keogh, Vokes and Ikeme should be fired up. They have waited for their chance, so go out and take it!
    Wolves win 2-0!

Quite right, Mick. Keep the pressure on the lads and this division is ours for he taking.
We’ve got a tough couple of games coming up, six points ould be nice but Bristol & Reading are no Derby & Doncaster - they are quite capable of turning us over if we aren’t at our very best.
    UP THE WOLVES!!!!

What is important is for the team to performa at the optimun and not giving up even when the results are against them.

If they maintain their grit determination and work rate, then there is no reasons why they cannot be amongst those for promotion.

Stay focused and up the Wolves.

You can have a go at me for this but i am going to say it anyway…when that kick up the backside arrives all of the FREDDIE FREDDIE FREDDIE crew will come crawling out from under the south bank where they are currently hiding. Yes hiding …because FREDDIE has amassed the incredible goal tally of one from EIGHT games and was hauled off in the 70th on saturday. I was fuming when all the whingers kept on and on at Mcarthy…..what do you think of the strike force now, come on, where are you????

WE HATE M.MCARTHY….How about getting a life. Its ok for fans to slate him and players but not nfor them to respond. Suggest you get a life or go to a club where you can continue to be bitter and twisted

I have it on good authority that “We Hate Mick McCarthy” is a WBA fan. Get off this sight you Tesco Carrier Bag. You’ll be blown away this season with no forwards and a leaky defence.

  14. Donald Duck said:

No. 5 what is your problem, why don’t go and join your mate at Coventry (The Gypo) because you are not wanted at the Wolves.

  15. Grogphil said:

Must keep winning 30 points clear with 9 matches to go sounds about the right time to me.

  16. Dave said:

No. 5 doesn’t deserve to wear the old gold and black.

He is a disgrace to genuine Wolves fans.

Remember just how ‘loyal’ 50% of our fan base was when the team weren’t performing.

Plenty on here wanted him out over the summer.

    No loyalty nowadays is there…..lol.

Should beat Bristol at home, they arn’t anything special, just a decent manager.

I’d take a draw against Reading wether its home or away. They still have a Premiership team don’t they.

    I think we’ll win 2-0 on Sat.

    1-1 next Tuesday.

Hope we don’t get too angry if we lose one of these games!

    5. save your comments for people who actually care.. plus stay way on sat.. and go do the bingo or somthing.. thanks :)

looking forward to a near full house, with SEB and Volks hoping to cause havoc and stake a place ahead of Chris?

    5) Go and support someone else, you buffoon. He may well have messed up last season but he and the scouts are responsible for one the youngest and most attractive football teams seen by Wolves fans for donkey’s years.

  24. Filtonwolf (Bristol) said:

Wise word indeed ! We cannot become complacent and bristol City will not give us an easy ride on Saturday. With Iwelumo and Hennessey both missing the stand ins have got to really do their bit. However I don’t think that City will be able to cope with Kightly and Jarvis on the wings.

    5. What are you on my friend ?!!! Or are you a mischievious little stripey in wolf’s clothing ?

WE HATE M.MCARTHY said - Go away Baggie! Why would any Wolves supporter want to say that?

  26. upthewolves said:

No.5 My god man let it go.So he had a dig at us so what, as long as we keep winning he can say what he likes for me.

he is honest as the day is long and if you are too sensitive you should stop going to the games and maybe go to bingo. mind you i have heard the oaps can be a bit a aggressive.

Dont rise to the bait, i strongly suspect 5 is a baggie fan who ain’t got anything better to do in his sad life other than get a ego boost when fans react to his drival.

  34. Wolf72 said:

Isn’t it great to see us all united in our support for the manager and the team!! I get the feeling No5 is actually someone who wanted to provoke a positive reaction so mission accomplished as far as I can see!

    Come on me babbies!!!

  35. Macthewolf said:

I just hope he doesn’t play Keogh as the strike partner to Seb it didn’t work last year, play Volks with him. I can’t see anything but another win probably 3-1 again or even 4-1. Keep playing attacking football and don’t sit back and defend. As I stated last year attack is the best form of defence.

  36. TownsvilleWolf QLD said:

I feel the kick up the backside could be self inflicted (I hope I am wrong), but the bone head Iwelumo should never have got involved in that incident at Preston on Saturday. He is on an absolute crest of wave with his form, playing in an unbeaten side, what more could a 30yr old player rescued from the back water of Charlton ask for. Whether we think he has been wronged by the FA & whether we think the FA favour the Prem Clubs yes,we know they do. The intent from Iwelumo was there on the pitch for all to see. He was pumped up, as he had given their defence a severe going over all afternoon, but he would have been better off putting his head to the ball for his fourth goal rather then aim it at a fellow professional. I believe he should hold his head in shame for letting his team mates down & more importantly the fans because these players know a staight red means an automatic 3 game ban. The 3 games he will miss could put our brilliant winning start to the campaign at real risk. Sam Vokes please step up & kick start your career with Wolves (you have already scored 3 this season) & maybe Iwelumo may have to suffer an even worse self inflicted exhile of more then 3 games. Perhaps the Wolves management should have also increased the 3 game ban with some in house discipline. Yes I am angry because we have had such a good thing going & it has now been spoiled by absolute stupidity by what could be the bargain buy of the season. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Guy guys guys… you have all fallen for no.5, he/it is a boggie..take no notice just stirring it. Be positive, we have enough to take 4 or 6 points from the next 2 gammes which is surely the target

you lot should be ashamed of yourselfs for backing the most arrogant, horrible manager weve had in years.ive never got on any managers case before but after mcarthy’s comments last season,he should be hung from the rafters not put on a pedalstall.
