Iwelumo loses red card appeal

Preston 0 Wolves 1Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo has lost his appeal over his sending off against Preston.

The FA heard evidence including statements from Wolves, Iwelumo and have viewed the match video. They decided to uphold the decision of referee Martin Atkinson and the eight-goal striker will now be banned for three games.

He will miss the home games against Bristol City and Reading, along with the trip to Swansea. Iwelumo was red-carded for head-to-head contact with Preston defender Sean St Ledger.

St Ledger had appealed to Atkinson on Iwelumo’s behalf, saying there was only accidental contact.

A great pity that the FA have not had the common sense to listen to the people involved and make the only decision that they should have . It would appear that you have to be a Chelsea player to have a red card rescinded . It would be very interesting to see how many cards , both red and yellow , that John Terry has received during his career and to compare that with Chris who has been a professional for at leats 4 years longer and has received only 8 yellow cards during that time . However , I am convinced that , as much as we will miss him , the rest of the team will make up for his absence and keep us unbeaten over the period of the suspension .

His name was not `Terry` and the club are not deemed rich enough to have `powerful` individuals with influence. A one match ban along with St Ledger for play acting would have been acceptable but this decision, like many, brings the game into disrepute. It really is time to bring the game into the twentieth century as regards video evidence so that officials can be sure of their knee jerk reactions. I do mean the `twentieth century` before anyone attempts to correct me. I bet many of us who have suffered at the hands of the foolish and petty officialdom of the F A suspected this would be the outcome. Blood boiling time. Just look at how the small, penniless clubs are treated such as Bournmouth, Luton, etc. The smaller you are the less regard you receive.
