Triumphant Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen hailed the Saddlers’ 1-0 win at Brighton as the best result of his 40-year career.
Dwayne Mattis’ header gave the visitors a startling victory on Saturday, after Rhys Weston and Netan Sansara had both been shown straight red cards in the first half.
Mullen saw his charges produce a tremendous resilient display and says he has not seen a better one.
He said: “This is my 40th year in professional football since I joined Sheffield Wednesday as a 16-year-old. said to the boys it was one of the bravest, most determined, hardworking and honest performances I have ever seen. Everyone was a hero.
“It was absolutely fantastic. To lose two players in the manner that we did and to play with nine men for over an hour meant we had to dig in. The lads showed a fantastic attitude.
“From the players, the staff, the bus driver and Geoff the kit man, everyone was willing the lads on in the second half.”
Mullen also believes it the win will go down as a landmark in the playersí careers as one to savour.
He said: “Brighton is a tough place to come for everyone but from the younger player’s point of view, what a match to look back on. There are not many days like it.”

I was in tears………….what commitment! Now if that doesn’t get the crowds back in at The Banks’s nothing will. Message to the JB objectors: Players of this calibre don’t come for free, I think JB has stood by his word and invested in the squad, maybe not in transfer fees but certainly with wages! So come on get back down here and cheer on the lads……..
