Davies relief at silencing boo boys

West Bromwich Albion defender Curtis Davies has signed for Aston VillaVilla defender Curtis Davies has expressed his relief at silencing the Albion boo boys and leaving his former stomping ground with three points.

As expected, the former Baggies skipper was given a hostile reception on his return to the Hawthorns, a year after handing in a transfer request and asking not to be played in an attempt to force through a move to Villa Park.

Davies showed no signs of cracking under the pressure and put in another assured display at the heart of the claret and blue defence, as Martin O’Neill’s men recorded their third away win in a week with a 2-1 victory courtesy of John Carew and Gabby Agbonlahor strikes.

Davies said: “I expected it to be just as it was. I knew I’d get stick and thought that it would maybe die off a bit sooner. I thought I’d just get booed a couple of times, but fans will do what fans will do and it stayed there until we got the two goals.

“I think they then turned onto the West Brom players a bit, but I just had my head down by then. I wasn’t trying to play up to it and I didn’t celebrate any of the goals.

“I just came to do a professional job and get the three points. I was glad we managed it but it could have gone either way.

“You expect it, that’s football and it does make the atmosphere. It’s the only derby that both clubs are going to get this year, so it was always going to be a good game to watch.

“Two quick goals at Albion made it look as if the game was over but they got a goal and it was all on a knife edge again. Three wins in six days sets us up but it’s a long season.”

Davies insists he still has no hard feelings towards his former club and revealed he hopes they stay up.

He added: “I wish the club all the best. They will definitely stay up. With the football they play, we played better against Tottenham and they spent £60 million in the summer.

“So if you are looking at comparisons, West Brom will stay up.”

Well played curtis davies and villa, easy three points from a team going back to the championship, tesco had another player on the day called post who saved them a few times, should have been at least four.

1..between the post counts not hitting it! Keep on crowing my friend you dd it once before and ended up with egg on your face. Yes you are doing well at the moment .Watford where 10/12 points clear last season and look what happened to them its very early in the season to be crowing

Curtis .. you must be kidding I never once heard the crowd turn the Albion players why should they they played as well as Villa the only differnce between the 2 teams was in my opinion “Carew” (and obviously the 2 goals we gifted them mind you they gifted us our goal)you where boo’d before the game during the game and after the game

The only thing he didn’t do was score, but other than that, a perfect return to the throstles.
The booing only made him more determined to do a good job, so a big thank you to the boo boys, you got exactly what you deserved…..nothing.

  4. Distant Baggie said:

Fans shouldn’t boo their own players during a match. It’s not all over yet as there are lots of points to play for. Curtis Davies can’t be blamed for being ambitious. That’s only natural.

  5. Wbaforever said:

The way Curtis behaved prior to his departure was the annoying thing.
He was/is a quality player and any Baggie fan saying otherwise is doing so out of disdain for the lack of respect he showed toward our club.

The comment he makes about the fans turning on their own players is complete and utter b******

The one thing i find amusing and disconcerting in equal measures is this new found love and unholy alliance between Villa and Wolves fans !
I can see where the Wolves fans are coming from however,
they can see a local rivalry where their bitter enemies are second best, and it placates them a little, because we have humiliated them so often.

You CLEARLY were not in attendance, if you had been then you would know that there was no booing of Baggies by the fans.
In future please get the facts correct before condemnation.

Distant Baggie: there was certainly no boos at our own players, I was there. If our fans boo Davies then fine. I did not and by the way he is yesterdays news. Time to move on!!

So Curtis Davis is a liar then?

2.calm down. you will soon get used to losing games, you cant get this upset everytime.
    8. you should know by now if you dont agree with a sandwell fan you are either a .schoolkid, a liar, or a idiot.
you can have your own oppinion just as long as it is the same as theirs.

    Quote attributed to Curtis Davies

“I think they turned on the West Brom players a bit”

That is simply not true, so yes, Curtis Davies
    in this instance is lying.

I do not know what you are getting at in your post
    number 9.
No one has called anyone a kid, idiot etc.
I was simply refuting Davies comments that the fans turned on the team.

I totally understand why (and agree with) Baggies fans booing Curtis. The way he treated the club (paying his wages) was disrespectful. To ask for a transfer is one thing - but to also ask not to be played (whilst still getting paid?) - what a joke. I hope his pub-playing-quality that he admitted having at the Villa soon return to haunt him……

11.not my comment mate having problems with people commenting under my name…i believe Terry is having the same problems….they must get a thrill out of posting comments under other peoples names. if you look back over my actual posts you will see i have been congratulating Albion and wishing you good luck.
i look forward to hopefully watching a black Country derby in the prem.
i have no idea wether you turned on you team or not i wasnt there but i would imagine any boos where aimed at Davis.

Just returned from hols (again) but managed to watch the villa match on TV.

Barnett was out gunned by Carew - but that wasn’t a suprise and was why Meite was picked to play until he got injured. Barnett did much better 2nd half - but Carew showed a glimpse of what we are missing at present - a centre forward who dominates defenders.

Whether Miller can develop that sie of his game remains to be seen.

I thought our midfield were excellent and made Gareth Barry look very ordinary. Valero showed some real quality - as did Zuivi at RB. Brunt going off made us a bit lopsided but i thought Kim had another good game.

Other than a 15 minute period in the first half i thought we were at least equal to villa - however they scored their goals in those minutes - thats the difference at this level.

When Friedle saved that header from Kim I was looking for Phillips to tap in the rebound….oh well !!

Its always painful to lose a derby game (aint that right dingles)… but still no need to panic yet - but we need to convert possession into goals !

welcome back Happy. Michael, how was the uphill gardening ??

    Happy baggie.
    hope you enjoyed your hols.
hopefully you can get a few wins under your belt.
let’s get the midlands clubs in the prem together.
it’s about time we had a Black Country Derby in the Prem.

reeli i dont think any wolves fan can comment on this at all because they don’t create quality like WBA do. FAir play to Davies he is a good player and will play for England although the way he went about getting away from West Brom was very disrespectful. I must agree we will stay up and we did play some good football against Villa, we didn’t create enough goal scoring chances and were punished. They are a good attacking team but if it wasn’t for Lausen and Davies at the back… villa wouldn’t be where they are now. Most villa fans would agree and any wolves fans can’t say a thing, Championship is where they are now platying lower league football, despite anything else its the truth so really i feel sorry for you…. actually no i don’t!!! haha :)

    17. are you auditioning for Little Britain. or something or nothing. yeah but no?

  19. Throstlehead said:

Lets clear one thing up there was no booing by Albion fans of there own team. A lot of people booed Davies which was their choice but is always counter productive and infantile. That mischievous comment by Davies is just rubbish.

Villa won and good luck to them, they are a very very good team. Albion were not disgraced by any means but clearly struggled to hurt Villa. So instead of all the over reaction just remember we won’t be playing teams of that quality every week. I don’t think the way the referee handled the game aided Albion’s cause and we could have done without the injuries but thats football.

  20. Baggie Boy said:

    9. michael you really are a silly little boy. I am certain I will see my team lose again this seaso we are playing against some of the worlds best footballers. I dont get upset over football I am 41 years old been there done seen it all the highs and the lows blah blah blah. I was clearly stating the obvious in my post you should read posts and not just see the word “baggie” and suddenly start your silly “get used to losing” or ” my teams better than your team” its time you grew up and posted some decent debate’s

  21. Nedball said:

Curtis Davies is a very good player. He hasn’t changed a bi since he was at the Albion though. Excellent defender, but his distribution can definitely be improved. I refused to boo him, as he was a great player for the Albion (when fit). He made some silly comments, when he was looking to leave, but he made them for that reason….to leave.
Villa played well, I thought we were unlucky ot to get the draw, but I can’t moan.
Keep playing like that and I’m still sure we’ll be playing in the Prem again next season.

  22. ooh ooh oohwelumoo said:

14 - so albion have never lost to the wolves then ???? u do talk some rubbish.

17 - if your first point was that you created the quality centre half that is curtis davies then i suppose the £3m you paid luton was all a dream. they created the quality there.

if your other point was that we don’t create quality then your obviously an idiot. at least when we do they are nurtured from kids and go on to play for england (lescott) or they amass nearly £80m worth of transfer fees by the age of 28 (keane)

so carry on spouting rubbish while your keeping our seat warm in the prem, cos we’ll be passing each other come may.

  23. Baggie Boy said:

22.On your point 2 about the total transfer fees yes Keane is a good player but having that many clubs at 28 aint nothing to be proud of he is just a journey man that plays for whoever pays the most similar to 10 team Anelka. dont agree with lescott I dont rate him but thats my personal opinion

  24. Chris (Villa fan) said:

Curtis Davies is excellent and was worth every penny that Villa paid for him. Turned in another classy performance on Sunday but then he went and opened his mouth and once again all the wrong words seem to come out.

Sometimes I just wish he’d let his football do the talking and leave it at that.
