Villa blog: Laurel and Hardy

harewood.jpgVilla blogger Dave Bytheway compares Harewood and Agbonlahor to Laurel and Hardy, talks Lovech and waits with baited breath until the showdown with Albion at the Hawthorns.

Two down, one to go in one of the busiest weeks I can remember as a Villa fan, the ‘price’ to pay for playing in Europe I suppose.

A great start to three games in seven days on Monday, where we came out deserved winners at Spurs to go into the coverted fourth spot.

The omission of Milner from the starting line up showed the strength in depth our squad now has, and goals from Reo-Coker and Young shows we can score from anywhere.

Much blame was heaped on their keeper Gomes, but without his world class saves throughout, the margin could have been much greater.

Straight from White Hart Lane, the team went straight to the airport to fly to Lovech, where apparently Stan Petrov is a bit of a celebrity, comfirmed by the waiting fans on arrival.

He didn’t disappoint in the game either, showing why he has just been given a new contract. The game started badly for us, I had only just stopped laughing at the guy named Du Du, when we found ourselves actually in it after ten minutes going behind to a daft goal.

Although our performance was poor throughout, we got a decent result to bring them back to Villa Park in a fortnight. The penalty incident showed why Agbonlahor and Harewood can’t play together, with both missing open goals.

Then Gabby hit the bar with the ball rebounding into Marlon’s face. Oh dear. Laurel and Hardy would have been proud!

Sunday brings the big one at the Hawthorns. Speaking to some Baggies fans, it seems all rests on weather Zuiverlooon plays or not. In my opinion the only thing that matters is if Ashley Young recovers from his knock.

Without him we are very ordinary and our set plays are basic without his delivery. My prediction, a tough game, great atmosphere, a draw without Young, a 2-1 win if he plays.

Martin O’Neill loves derby games and as my learned friend Steve Beech told me in ‘Fans Forum: Derby Day Part 2,’ its been a while since they beat us, so hopefully the trend can continue.

Up the Villa!
