A councillor under investigation over claims he was using his house for paid group sex has quit the Conservative Party, the Express & Star can reveal.
Wednesfield north councillor David Bourne, says he has resigned from his cabinet role and left the Tory Party.
He and his wife, fellow Wolverhampton City Council member Carol Bourne, who represents Wednesfield south, are alleged to have used their house in Telford Gardens, Merry Hill, for paid sex.
Council bosses meet tomorrow to discuss his future, but Councillor Bourne said “I have resigned” today.
He added he has set out his position in writing to Tory HQ.
He said: “People are free to criticise me – I don’t care.”
He failed to reveal whether he intends to step down as a councillor.
The 66-year old was cabinet member for children in the ruling Tory-Liberal Democrat alliance.
A cabinet replacement is expected to be announced tomorrow.
It is not known if 49-year old wife Carol has quit the party. If both go it would trigger two by-elections.

‘I don’t care’ - You should damn well care Cllr Bourne!
Quite shocking and disgraceful from a person who has been entrusted as an upstanding person to care for his constituents and the children and young people he had responsibility for as a Cabinet member.
You have lat a great deal of people down - but you wouldn’t care about that Cllr Bourne!

Good Riddance. We do not want that type of person representing our City. Shame on you

Back to Basics? Amazing that these politicians feel free to meddle with our lives while carrying out such acts of debauchery.

Nice to see Labour jumping on this story even in the comments here.
I’m more concerned about the £5 million hole in the budget left by the previous incompetent Labour administration than I am over what consenting adults get up to in their own home.
Oh, and please stop conflating this situation with paedophilia.
The pair were foolish and should have realised that they were bound to cause great embarrassment for their Conservative colleagues and the city.
However, Labour failed this city for years in the areas that actually matter.

i live by them also, we never witnessed much coming and going, they have always been a nice polite couple. What they do behind closed doors is up to them.

4. Common sense, Labour may have failed the city but they never screwed it like the Tories! The Bourne’s bring national shame and embarrasment on this city.

Whatever people do in the privacy of their own homes, without harming anybody else is their own business and NO ONE else’s.

Jimmi Spice: what does that even mean?
National shame and embarrassment? I’m not ashamed because it hasn’t in the least bit affected me. And besides, I’ve got better things to worry about, like paying the bills under this Labour government.

Get a grip Ex & Star, what important is their ability to look after the needs of the electorate not their private life.

Out of Darkness Comemeth Light - They should stand down now and pay back every penny of expenses they claimed from our council tax. With any luck they will leave our City soon. Then the folk of Wednesfield can have councillors they can trust.

Who cares?

and this is a couple we put are trust in and vote for what a embarrassment

Who did they hurt? No-one! Did they rip off the system? Not from what I can see!
So why are people so vitriolic here about them when all this happened behind closed door?
And why take back their expenses? Petty minded leftwhingers - enjoying destroying someones career.

Typical Tories!

Pleased to see that Coun Bourne has done the decent thing and resigned. A message to all those Wolverhampton socialists whose noses were put of joint when the Wolverhampton electorate rejected them in May - whatever you may think about the Bournes they were damn good councillors, helping me and my family on a couple of occasions. I shall continue to vote Conservative, because that way I will be assured the representation I deserve.

If you are going to criticise them, criticise them for their council work. Their private life is their business.
