Bully dreams of Shield glory

bully.jpegStafford manager Steve Bull has dreams of glory as he makes his first foray into the Setanta Shield at Alfreton tonight (7:45pm).

Bully also encounters Alfreton for the first time as a manager, although the two league rivals will lock horns in Blue Square North action in February and March of 2009.

The Rangers boss will not want to be seeking revenge for a cup exit at the hands of Nicky Law’s side when the two sides next meet.

He knows the feel good factor a decent cup run could bring, even in what is essentially the non-league cup, and is preparing his side accordingly.

He said: “I will be taking the Setanta Shield very seriously. It is another game we have to win. A good cup run, in any of the cups, brings more revenue into the club and puts a buzz about the place.

“It was the same when I won the Sherpa Vans trophy with Wolves in 1988. Every cup is there to be won. If you can get to the final, your laughing your head off. It would be absolutely superb for the club.”

Some of the Stafford faithful may see the cup-tie as a welcome distraction from some erratic form in the league. That is not a sentiment Bully will be welcoming.

He added: “We want to win every game, so to treat a cup game as a release is not the right attitiude to have. This is another game to prepare the right way for and win.

“Like I say, every cup is there to be won.”
