Alex McLeish has confirmed he will look to the loan market to bolster his squad for the demands of their Coca-Cola Championship campaign.
The Birmingham boss failed in a bid to sign Celtic’s Bobo Balde before the close of the transfer window and admits a centre-half is his top priority.
But he is also looking to strengthen his midfield options with Tottenham’s out-of-favour midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng believed to be one of his top targets.
McLeish said: “I’d like to bolster the squad and I’m still looking at bringing in a player or two right now.
“We obviously tried to get a centre-half in and it didn’t work out for us, so we still find ourselves a little bit short in that department, as well as in central midfield.
“I would have liked to have made a couple more permanent signings but we just couldn’t do it at the time. It was either the deals were too much or it just didn’t suit us.
“Rather than rush into anything I think we can definitely use the loan system. West Brom showed you can do it at any time of the season, so there’s no need to panic right now.”

Yes thats it follow our example and be wise,as it could be the differance between up or fizzy. good luck though
Their lack of success believe it or not
Was blamed on the curse of a gypsy what rot
No way it was players though a talentless lot
The reason for trophies that they have not got
International players a few they have had
None very good cept for one who wern’t bad
But remember Gil Merrick he really was sad
When England dropped him boy were we glad
The ground is an eye sore should be knocked down
And what of the fans who thought Bruce a clown
He gave them promotion and still they all frown
They never were happy while he was around
So Birminghams loss has become Wigans gain
Cos Wigan stayed up with Blues down again
The board is in turmoil so’s play on the pitch
Are you sure t’was a gypsy or was it a witch
So sad to know that their fans only goal
Is to beat Aston Villa what poor hapless souls
If they beat us the crowd it rocks & it rolls
But its not very often they get the jolls
You’d think they’d be happy at anothers success
I dont even mind if they couldn’t care less
But they’re so very bitter cos its we who are blessed
A sad fact I know but they’re jealous I guess
I know Villa fans shouldn’t dwell on the past But Blues wont give credit its too much to ask
at least we have got one that leaves them aghast
And each seasons end they’re flags at half mast
They just wont admit it that they’ll never be
The number one team in the second city
That title has always been Villa’s you see
Just ask any Villa fan you dont have to believe me
