Two could become three for Wolves

matt-hill.jpegWolves are set to complete two deals with the arrival of Norwich defender Jason Shackell and Preston left-back Matt Hill – and there could be a third mystery signing before the midnight deadline.

Shackell, 24, is due at Molineux for the final part of his medical, as a prelude to a deal thought to be worth £1million and the signing of a four-year contract.

The signing of 27-year-old Hill on a three-year deal was also set to go through, as part of an exchange with striker Stephen Elliott.

Both Shackell and Hill watched Wolves’ 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Elliott was in the stands for Preston’s 2-1 victory over Charlton.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said today: “Subject to passing a medical, we’re announcing the signing of Jason Shackell.

He said: “He’s 6ft 3in and he fits the bill as a young, left-sided centre-half with experience. He’s a player we’ve been monitoring for a long time.”

Shackell was Norwich’s captain last season and Wolves tracked him earlier this summer. Canaries boss Glenn Roeder was reluctant to let the one-club man go before getting in replacements.

The signings of Dejan Stefanovic from Fulham and Celtic’s John Kennedy on loan has persuaded him to do business.

The deal to sign Hill, who is to have a medical, should also be completed today with the 27-year-old set to sign a three-year contract. Elliott was due to undergo a medical at Preston.

Hill spent seven years at hometown club Bristol City before spending the last three at Preston, where he was Player of the Year the season before last.

Moxey added: “We’re working on possibly one more signing.”

Lol - what better game to watch to convince them to sign for the club than a comprehensive dismantling of Forest?! Get in!

Good news providing they pass the medicals. Is the other possible third signing in case one of Shackell or Hill fails a medical. Sunderland centr half. Surely we dont need three.

  4. wolveswolves said:

Not overly excited by either of them but they should be able to do an okay job at the championship level.

it will be another forward/winger as cover for kights/jarvis, if we were to lose one of them through injury I think we would suffer, just look whats happened with injuries already so cover should be a top priority. I believe if we can keep everyone fit and play at that sort of tempo we could get automatic.

  11. wembley66 said:

With these two in the jigsaw is nearly complete. If we maintain a top 3 or 4 by Xmas another one or two to help out Kights and Jarvo and we have every chance. Long may it continue!!!

Elliot’s a complete waste of space!! the lad couldn’t even score from 12 yards out from the spot the other week!! get rid and get at least 2 CB’s in. Saurday was fantastic best game i been to in a long time but collins still looked weak at the bak! forest attacked about twice in the 1st half and both times they skinned collins and left him 4 dead!!

Great performance on Saturday. Why are people questioning these signings, as in most cases MM has got it right.
Hopefully in the next few months we will have back, as cover, Matt Murray and Lewis Gobern.
The only slight negative is what is happening with Mark Davies?

  31. phes said:

It’ll be a keeper on loan … once the window closes we cant even sign an emergency loan for 3 weeks so i think MM will get in some cover of Ikeme and Wayne (should one of them pick up a nock)

    Mad Mick ?

Yeah i’m upset with our start too

    We need another striker ?

I agree Vokes, Keogh, Ward, Iwelumo & SEB are not enough

And do we need another left back ?

No Stephen Ward is good enough as is the awfully slow Dan Jones.

Anybody Else heard the rumour on skysports that wolves are very interested in Ryan Shawcross from Stoke ..

Sky went to there corrspondent in the midlands and was mentioning all the rumours and then he came to wolves .. Said we had completed the signing of jason shackell from norwich and then announced that wolves was very interested in signing ryan shawcross from stoke and were very keen on getting him.

Did anyone else see this on sky .. I think Shawcross would be an absolute steal from stoke and we would have an awesome back 2 with Stearmen ,Shackell And Shawcross !!!

And Shawcross has droped down to 5th defender choice at stoke now with Sonko,Cort,Addulaye Faye and Andrew Davies who they got in from soton .. all in front of him.
Also Stoke are getting danny higginbotham pending his medical. So this could be very true indeed.

And also Wolves 3rd mystery player they are trying to sign is defornatly Ryan Shawcross according to sky sports sources.

GET SHAWCROSS IN MICK !! COME ON YOU WOLVES !!!

53…had to laff at your “we would have an awesome back 2 with Stearman,Shackell and Shawcross isnt that 3 players??!!!

  59. London Wolf said:

51 I agree. Wolves were left in a dreadful situation by the previous manager, which why he presumably decided to leave.

MM has made an excellent start to the season.

Unfortunately, the so called “experts” are never satisfied and continue to moan about every last detail of a potential signing.

The key issue is that there are few people who actually know about the detailed negotiations associated with a signing (On the Wolves side, I guess, Moxey, Morgan, MM & perhaps one or two others).

Yet these “experts” seem to be fully aware of every last detail, continually moan and profer their negotiation skills & recommendations - even down to the salaries that should be paid!

Give it a rest or find another team!

  60. rich5wolves said:

Firstly- unless you go to the majority of matches you cannot really have an accurate opinion of the teams affairs. If you criticise Mick then at least see his work in person. So far this season the management team, the plyers etc………have been faultless, even playing a striker at left back because it work. Forget the Carling Cup.

Secondly - how can some of you people criticise players who havnt kicked a ball for the club yet?? Some of you muppets were moaning at Iwelumo when he signed. “Is this our ambition”, but now look!!!

Get behind the team and if you are one of these people that sits at home and just comes on here to moan, stop being so irritating and dont bother. Im no happy clapper but whats happening so far this year is good!!!

A good result Saturday puts us in the driving seat. The signings are a statement of intent but make no mistake the season starts on Saturday at Charlton and the next half dozen or so fixtures will set the tone. If we are there or there abouts at Chrimbo then we have every chance of keeping our best players, until then Premier sharks continue to circle.

  76. Paddy said:

Richard Dunne and Michael Dawson!!!! I don’t think so!

  77. Accountant Wolf said:

As an excellent transfer window closes we should all thank Mr Moxey on the fantastic trading he has done this year, both last winter and this summer.

My estimate is that up until todays outgoings we were ahead in the market place, today means that we may have £1M this summer.

The team is much improved, and my only concern now is the wage bill. If we have players on the books who are not wanted here, they are an unnecessary drain on the clubs resources.

The value of these young players at the end of a winning season will be mind-blowing!

  78. martwolves said:

Eseex Wilf - Have you ever been to a football match?

I find it difficult that a true supporter of Wolves come out with such a load of ill-informed nonsense.

Elokobi and Craddock out for months and you wonder why we’re signing defenders?

Stephen Elliot is poor and adds nothing to the side, he is a headless chicken.

I’m optimistic that this will be a good year for us.

Obviously there is no-one in the reserves or youth team anywhere near ready to step into gap at left-back which is why we have been playing Collins and Ward.
