Baggies boss hails new boy Olsson

olsson.jpegAlbion boss Tony Mowbray hailed Jonas Olsson’s “winner’s attitude” after the giant defender sealed his move to the Hawthorns.

The 6ft 4in Swedish stopper has completed the formalities of his move from NEC Nijmegen, with the Baggies paying £800,000 up front.

The deal for the former Sweden U21 international could cost a further £360,000, depending on performance-related add-ons.

Mowbray is pleased to complete the deal.

He said: “I’m delighted to welcome Jonas to the club. He’s got different assets to our other centre-halves. He’s a big, tall, left-sided defender who will bring physical attributes to our team, due to his sheer size.

“Jonas is comfortable on the ball, can pick a pass and also has a real winner’s attitude.

“He’s been brought in to increase competition at centre-half. I’m looking forward to working with him and helping to develop his career in the Premier League.”

Olsson moved to Holland from hometown club Landskrona in 2005 and has been an Eredivisie regular for Nijmegen for the past three years, helping them finish tenth in his first two seasons and eighth last term.
