Jonno hopes for repeat

greening22.jpgAlbion captain Jonathan Greening is desperate for history to repeat itself when he chases a third successive Hawthorns win over Everton.

Greening was in the last Baggies side that played the Toffees at home and chalked up a 4-0 win in 2005, with two goals from Nathan Ellington and one apiece from Neil Clement and Robert Earnshaw.

He also figured in a 1-0 win a year earlier when Zoltan Gera scored. He is expecting a tough test tomorrow.

Greening said: “The last time we played them it was 4-0. We’ve had some good clashes with them and put in some good performances.

“Hopefully we can carry on with that and put in a good performance. The result will take care of itself. We’ve got to be aware that they are all good players.

“Yakubu up front is a real threat and we need to control him, so our defenders will have to be on top of their game. Other than that we have to go for it and show them that we are really good at passing the ball and dribbling.

“Hopefully Ishmael Miller and Roman Bednar up front will cause them some problems. Everton have been brilliant under David Moyes for the last three years and they finished fifth last year.

“It’s not going to be an easy game but we’re full of confidence. If we can play well we’ve got a great chance, against a good Everton team. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Greening has called on the fans to play their part in getting the home season off to a winning start.

He said: “We are looking forward to every game but this is the first home game of the season. The crowd will be up for it and the players are up for it.

“It’s going to be a really good occasion. We need to put in the right performance and get the right result.

“I am really looking forward to it. The crowd were really good last year at The Hawthorns and we did really well there. If we can generate the same atmosphere this season then it will be great.

“Home form is going to be really important this year. If we can play the football we know we can play at home and the crowd get behind us, we have a good chance of having a good home record again.”
