Baggies chase Swede Olsson

olsson.jpegAlbion are targeting giant Swedish defender Jonas Olsson as their latest possible summer signing.

The Baggies, who are currently racing to make £4.9m signing Borja Valero available for a debut against Everton, have added former Sweden U21 international Olsson to their shopping list.

Olsson has attempted to speed up a move to England, by issuing a “come and get me” plea to Premier League clubs.

Reports in Holland have confirmed Albion watched the 25-year-old in action for Dutch club NEC Nijmegen and made an initial inquiry.

Albion, who also made West Ham’s James Collins another transfer option at the heart of defence, have not yet made an offer for Olsson.

Olsson has also been linked previously to Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Everton.

He told the Swedish media: “The dream is to play in The Premier League. The club wants to sell me because I’m near the end of my contract.”

The 6ft 4ins player has made 93 appearances for the Dutch top-flight club since a £650,000 switch to Nijmegen from Landskrona in 2005.

Albion are still targeting at least three more signings before the end of the transfer window. The current top priority is to complete the paperwork on Valero’s transfer from Spanish club Real Mallorca.
