A woman believed to be his girlfriend is fighting for her life in hospital after being viciously attacked with a knife. The victim, named locally as Kenny Westwood, died after being stabbed in the chest twice according to neighbours who frantically tried to save him.

They also say the woman, aged 50, who has not been named but is believed to be Mr Westwood’s new girlfriend, received stab wounds.

Detectives today confirmed they are investigating the stabbings in Monument Lane and said a man has been arrested.

The next door neighbours of Mr Westwood, aged 50, described how they heard raised voices from the house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

When they went to find out what the commotion was they saw Mr Westwood, also known as Sammy Legg,

lying on the floor with blood pouring from his chest.

A 23-year-old woman at the neighbour’s house, who did not want to be named, said: “My boyfriend went outside and rushed back in saying Ken has been stabbed.

“When we went outside we saw a car driving off. I went back into the kitchen to get some wet towels and started holding them down onto Kenny’s wounds. Then his girlfriend came running out of the house and asked how Kenny was before passing out.”

The couple fetched more towels and desperately tried to keep Mr Westwood alive while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Neighbours today spoke of their shock at the death of Mr Westwood who has lived in the street all his life. Helen Hadley, aged 45, said: “It’s such a shock because he was such a nice bloke.”

West Midlands Police spokesman Steve Garey said anyone with information is asked to call Dudley CID on 0845 113 5000.
