Iwelumo hails ‘buzzing’ Molineux

iwelumosmall.jpegChris Iwelumo has continued the Molineux feelgood factor by saying Wolves are playing the most exciting football he’s ever been involved in.

Iwelumo took his tally to four goals in five days with a brace in the 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Mick McCarthy’s men have now rattled in nine goals in three games, to make light of last season’s struggles in front of goal.

Iwelumo said: “This is the most exciting football I’ve been involved in. I’m buzzing and delighted to be here. I’m loving it. That’s why I came here. I don’t believe I got that service where I was before.

“To score four already just shows the standard the quality we’ve got here with the young, exciting players.

“I feel old saying that, but we’ve got some fantastic players.  It’s just one game, but we’re heading in the right direction.

“We’ve got to work on the negatives and the positives will come if we keep doing what we’re doing.”

At 6ft 3in, Iwelumo feels he can be the big presence Wolves have sometimes lacked up front.

He said: “I’ve been brought here to be a complete nuisance and I enjoy scoring goals, so long may that continue. I’ve got to be a presence and lead the line. I’ve got to make sure the defenders know I’m about and get in there if the ball’s not ‘sticking’.”

Quality signing! Worked hard all game and even though he is big he has pace. Keep up the good work Chris! FREDDY WHO?

quite possibly the biggest bargain of the season. Keep it up Big Chris. Cracking partnership with Ebanks.

We’ve played 3 games, start commenting like that at the end of the season if we continue.

    1) Bully is a legend, this guy has been here 5 mins, good to see him kick Keogh out the team though

  5. Eddie Wolf said:

Super performance from Chris on Saturday, he led the line immensely and him and SEB looked a real handful. Plus we have Keogh and Vokes on the bench too, got to be the best strike-force in division! Roll on Saturday!

  6. Bridget & Tony said:

A whole world of difference with Big Chris and SEB upfront and Jarvis and Kites on the flanks!
Well done to the lads and please dont tinker with the line up MM; you got it right just need a centre half with some pace for competition/ different option

Thanks MM for doing what is right!

Big Chris is like a younger version of Dion Dublin - knows where the goal is and can gee up the team

NB* Well done Neil Collins most solid display for a good while - Keep it up!

    Now thats ENTERTAINMENT!

  7. cwissywissywolf said:

yes - he is the sort of player required in this div.

Unsung player from sat is Jones - showed a nice touch and did a lot of the ugly stuff.

Def need a centre half and we are away!

He is absolute quality and a constant danger to opposition defense.

Lets not get too carried away. ood performance saturday, but its a toughie coming up this weekend. Hopefully though we’re looking good going forward and its been a while since we were leading scorers in the division!!

Yes, congrats to Neil Collins … i’m not his biggest fan but he played well and had a better understanding at the back with the rest of the defence than Craddock!

I’d still try to bring in another CB tho …

TOTAL RESPECT FOR THAT COMMENT..YES IT’S ONE GAME (AND A BLOODY GOOD ONE) BUT WE NEED TO FOLLOW IT UP WITH MORE PERFORMANCES LIKE THAT. WE DON’T EXPECT 4 GOALS EVERY GAME..BUT WE DO EXPECT THAT SORT OF PASSION AND DESIRE.

GREAT GAME, GREAT RESULT SO WELL DONE MICK AND THE LADS!!!!!!!

OMG A POSITIVE COMMENT FROM ME..GONNA LIE DOWN FOR A MOMENT.

I havent seen a striker this good since bully.

Iwelumo and Seb have cracking partnership and i just hope mick keeps them playing together.

Bargain buy from charlton for big chris.

Now mick just needs to get a centre half in A.S.A.P and we should be promotion contenders this year.

    COME ON ME BABIES !!

Big Chris was superb on Saturday. He’ll no doubt have the odd poor game, but if he does that more often than not he’s gonna be great for us.

7 - bang on Jones had a very solid performance in the middle, and it was great run from Edwards to latch on to the SEB through ball well tucked away too.

Have to say Jarvis was also quality on Saturday, it was so good to have a real balance cos we had two geuine attacking threats on both flanks. Love ya Wardy, but you’re just not a left winger.

More than ever now we need a centre half if Jody’s out. The only real negative on a very positive afternoon.

  14. Radoom said:

It must really pee off all the nay-sayers that we won so convincingly at the weekend.

None of them will be able to have their Muppet rant.

In MM we trust, always have, always will.

    1. W.E.S - Iwelumo is not a legend - yet !! He’s made a damn good start and eventually he may be good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as a real Wolves legend - Stevie Bull !! CI has certainly brought the added dimension of an old fashioned center forward - one who can score regularly with his head as well as his feet. Long may his partnership with SEB prosper and with the service they’ll be getting from Jervis & Kites they could be the 30 to 40 goal a season partnership we’ve been waiting a long time for.

  17. Happy Wolf said:

One goal away from that magic 5, then you get to sit on the bench for the rest of the season and let Elliot have his turn!!!!!Well that is what happened last season.

Anyway well done Chris and keep it up.

  18. bill said:

We will score goals this season and Iwelumo is ideal for this division, however playing without a decent centre back pairing is suicidal.

One good centre back would make us into a good team

At the moment I fear all of our good attacking intentions will be undone by sloppy defending, a good sidew ould have scored 2 or 3 against us on Saturday with all the space and time we gave them

Kitely man of the match, Iwelumo very effective, Jarvis classy and Jones very useful.

How many minutes of football did that Freddy bloke play for WOlves and only scored 5 goals.

Well iwelumo has only had 1 start and has scored 4. NOW CAN THE DOUBTERS SEE WHAT MICK IS DOING.

Keep up the good work Wolves. Good young hungry policy, we have not burst the bank, we have a team full of enthusiasm and a manager that is highly respected amongst board and players alike. And I certainly respevt the guy,

£400,000 for this bloke. Deal of the bloody century.

I agree he is not Steve Bull.

Did I miss something on Saturday?
    18, Jones very useful!!!
IMO he looked a bit out of place, he continually lost the ball when in possession, can’t trap a bag of cement, passed to “nobody” on several occassions and the game seemed to pass him by on Saturday,I’ll wait to see if I’m proved wrong on him and I hope I am but I think he’s too similar to Henry and I’d personally rather see Davies or Edwards play.
Having said that, great result and really pleased with our attacking style of play, long may it continue.
    We are Wolves.

  25. Evo9673 said:

    Im eating my words now!!!!!

I thought Mad Mick had purchased CI just as back up and to warm the bench but Christ how wrong am I!

There was one thing I sa on Saturday that i havent seen since probably the play off final and that was PASSION.

To shut the away fans up as well was superb.

Just a note did anyone else in the North Bank notice when Elokobi took their winger out by the corner flag and everyone was clapping him he gave a sly wave and had a massive smile on his face? Fair play to big George

  26. brinklow_wolf said:

Great performance Saturday, nice to see us scoring a few goals.
I was worried for the first twenty minutes or so when they pulled us around at the back and if they’d had a bit more composure we could’ve been in trouble - new CB a must now although to be fair Collins played well.
Only other negative point if I’m being picky is that we should’ve scored a few more!
    Up the Wolves!

  27. Ad said:

you mick lubbers really are something. if you remove your scathing comments from the list above, there’s practically nothing left, so who is actually the more malcontent?

The negative comments have dried to a trickle becuase Mick is finally putting out the best team, and appears less intent on persisting with players who dont perform. This is great. This is why he isnt being slagged off. Well done Mick. Well done Wolves.

Now for the love of all things Wolves, lets all stop goading each other and try to enjoy the win.

    COME ON YOU WOLVES !!

    24 Yorkshire Wolves:

No, I thought the same. As much as Jones looks a solid CM, I thought he seemed a bit of a luxury with Henry being forced to do more work because of it. Jones worked the centre well, but did not seem willing to break box-to-box at all. He will improve I am sure but I would like to see D. Edwards come in, he showed how to break from midfield and grab a goal after being on for a mere 10 minutes. I think him and Henry compliment eachother well.

  29. brummie rob wolves said:

We were poor for 20 minutes and then after that we were brilliant. With Jarvis and Kites on the wings and Iwelumo and Ebanks-Blake up front, there are goals galore in the team. Collins did well but I would be concerned if he is up against a pacy forward.
We need a centre half and could do with Davies fit!

  30. Redge999 said:

There is a major fifference in having this guy in the side, not only is he physical and a nuisance but we now have 2 strikers who can score 20 goals each. With two wingers who could get upto 10 each if they saty fit. I didnt comment on us signing him but i have been saying for ages keogh should not be in the side. Lets get another centre half and away we go. Only other switch i can see to the side is maybe Gray for Elekobi.

  31. lloydy said:

Am I the only one who thinks Elokobi could be given a run at Centre half alongside Stearmann?he has all the attributes pace, good in the air and reads a game well.Maybe Gray at left back?

Iwelumo - 20 goals, SEB - 20 goals dare I say = promotion! Get a CB in ASAP and this could be a great season!

anyone else hear a rumour that d.gabbidon was was at the mol saturday?

  34. DingleShandee said:

Why are we criticizing each other already?!

1, Mick McCarthy is No longer bein slagged off because he is finally doing, what everyone else new he should of been doing last season. Stephen wards not playing. Players arnt playing out of position. And andy keogh is finally being realised as a substitute.

2, Why are people.. stilll havin a go at freddy eastwoood?

”How many minutes of football did that Freddy bloke play for WOlves and only scored 5 goals.”

Well Iwelumos Played 3 yes? and scored 4? Well freddy eastwood scored 5 in 4. And then got dropped…

  36. Spirite Wolf said:

Enjoyed it after the 1st 20 minutes i think Brian Laws was our man of the match he took off the 2 best players on the pitch. That’s not negative it was an excellent game second half fantastic could have scored 8 if we would have passed to each other up front.

  37. Stafford Stokie said:

Big Chris was fantastic at Stoke, surprised we let him go! Just goes to show what the right service will get you.

  40. chris hoggard said:

Mick deserves credit for signing Iwelumo and also a no of earlier signings ,Kites and SEB.He must now get it right at the back with a dominating cenre back. The template should be obvious Darren Moore and Malky Mackay won at least 8 promotions between them from this division and we did it with PaulButler .Collins did do well in the second half but he missed a couple of high through balls in the first which could have been costly.

  41. Newbridge Wolf said:

I dont want to get carried away, one win doesn’t make our season. I do however believe that this team has been rejuvinated, when we went 1 down on saturday, the difference from last season was that I/we/they knew there were goals in the team, there was a huge roar at the restart and the players looked eager to make up the difference.

Full credit to the Unit, he’s a real presence up front and scares the snot out of most defenders. I hope that him and SEB can form a good understanding and read each others games a little bit better than I’ve seen so far.

Plenty of positives to take away from the game, not least the ever impressive Elokobi, this lad is looking pure class, Stearman had his best game I’ve seen yet. And as for the chant of ‘one Neil Collins’ albeit a bit toungue in cheek, I thought was great

  42. Laura wolves said:

Great team selection, glad he dropped Ward for Jarvis and Keogh for Iwelumo.Just need a good centre half but chuffed with the amount of goals were scoring COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!

  43. Wordsley Wolf said:

Mick drops Stephen Ward and Andy Keogh and Wolves score 4 shocker!

Solid performance but I’m not sure about Jones.

Played poorly against Plymouth and was probably our least effective player on Saturday.

It’s only an opinion but I’d much rather see Mark Davies or Dave Edwards in that position.

    Keep it up lads!

  44. BrownhillsWolf said:

Yeah I noticed, he’s how to do it without stepping over the so to speak… I was very Impressed with Big Chris in Scotland and I’m pleased as punch that he’s continued his form at last we have areal prowess!!!

In fact look at the final third of team and it has goals from all over, now if we can shore it up a little at the back and cut out the silly mistakes….. Well we could be in business you know!!!

  45. Grumpy Ole Man said:

Still in desperate need of two centrebacks, but we need to be really careful who they are if we do get them.
I, for one would not take my grandkids to watch Balde Beevers running ’round a field.

  46. DudzieWolf said:

He was a rock at the back too when he came back to defend on corners and set pieces, took their strikers out of the game when he did. Massive all round performance. Now with Craddock struggling with injury another CB is even more of a priority, we only have Stearman and Collins there and I don’t fancy Darren Ward as cover there at all. We could always move George Elokobi there and play Gray or Dan Jones at LB if desperate. Looking good at the moment but we need to kick on from here

  47. wolvesmod said:

The only negative point from Saturday is our crowd attendance. Bearing in mind Sheff Wed almost sold out and we only managed 22,000 first game of the season. Poor, very poor.

I noticed lots of people commenting on here during the game. Go to the match instead of slagging everyone off when we are 1-0 down and then jumping on the band wagon when we win 4-1 eh!!!!???????

  48. Micks dick said:

So, finally MM might even be listening to the grapevine huh! A start without Ward and Keogh is a move For Ward and glad to see it paying dividends already. As Bridget & Tony said, well done Mick, now leave the little fella alone, got that Mick? Don’t tinker! Lets go to Ipswich and give it to them big time! up the black & gold and get that center half in, you know it makes sense!

  49. RyanWolves said:

Its Annoying , EVERYONE was saying what a bad signing, waste of money, but what he did for colchester, with jamie cureton was amazing, but everyone looked at hes record at Charlton… he will be the difference this season and im glad people have realised how much of a BARGIN HE IS, and everyone has stopped slating him…

    UP THE WOLVES>>>>

  50. media wolf pete said:

Jarvis MOTM, Iwelumo a revelation like him more and more each week, Collins solid but concerned about the Jones/Henry pairing in the middle, neither of whom make any forward runs and prefer to play behind the ball - interestingly, Edwards did this at the end and he scores.

  51. E11 Wolf said:

Everyone is so positive I thought I had come to the wrong site….

Great day and hopefully the first of many but this team is still growing and we will have setbacks. Everyone in the world knows we need a CB but it’s good that Collins played well albeit against a relatively poor attack.

I get from Micks comments that he sees the Jarvis/Kites partnership operating at Molineux but maybe he has something else in mind away from home. Maybe that’s where Keogh will do his best work?

Glad to see that ‘Muppetout’ has gone out (hopefully)

Moses Mick WILL lead us to the promised land and wild horses will not keep me from Ipswich..

Good game to watch and elated, at last to see we have attacking options all over the pitch. A nervy start, but, and i mean this in the nicest possible way, glad Jody went off ( i like him a lot and wish him a speedy recovery) as we will now definitely be forced to get a new CB. Him going off showed the lack of depth in the defending department. Well done boys :)

  58. E11 Wolf said:

57…..You’re glad Jody went off ‘in the nicest possible way??????? He’s broken his foot. I hope he did this in the ‘nicest possible way.

Craddock is vital to us and I’m sure Mick realises we need a CB and quick. However now is the time for Collins to stand up and be counted. It’s his big chance. he is good enough and we must give him the best encouragement.

two games in and the first major problem. Sort it Mick - even if you have to pay over the odds.

Ok. Time for a reality check:

    1) We’ve beaten Sheff Wed….Rotherham managed that, drew with Plymouth….who lost to Luton and beat mighty Accrington Stanley…after extra time.

    2) Iwelumo has started well….just as he did at Charlton before going right off the boil.

    3) Mick thinks Jarvis is great….at home but hints that Ward nay still be preferred away from home.

    4) The defence is decidedly dodgy and will be sorely tested at Ipswich on Saturday.

    5) The team still does a lot better than Mick’s talking

    6) I’m not pro or anti-Eastwood but he seems to have made an equally positive start to Iwelumo.

Don’t get me wrong. Lots of positives and great to see lots of chances and goals but not met anyone yet who will contest promotion next May and unless we strengthen the defence and stiffen the midfield, we may have to score 4 goals in every match to make sure of victory!

  62. wolves lad said:

If Iwelumo and Jarvis haven’t earned their part in the starting 11 instead of Keogh and Ward than Mick should go to specsavers.

    thanks comment 60 dave
Jones played a sensible and controlled game for us, his passing looked decent and he didnt seem the kind to get physically bullied by anyone. Only 2 games into the season and I could be wrong but I really think he is a decent player

Iwelumo,SEB,Kitely,Jarvis will get us bags of goals what we need is a solid back four and whoever is playing midfield to win enough possesion for us to use our attacking players

And finally for those of you saying play Edwards because he makes forward runs, sorry chaps but you need some balance and we played with 2 strikers and 2 wingers on Saturday, I dont think we needed anyone else charging forward at every opportunity…unless this is the voice of the Kevin Keegan school of management talking
