Etienne Esajas gives Sheffield Wednesday a 15th minute lead, before a Chris Iwelumo brace either side of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake’s 55th minute penalty and a goal from sub David Edwards.

16:49: Wolves are 4-1 up through sub Edwards, after the strikeforce feed the on-rushing midfielder. Richard Hinds is strechered off in the aftermath for Wednesday.

16:44: Kightly gets a standing ovation as he is replaced by David Edwards.

16:34: A good peformance from Matt Jarvis, as he is replaced by Andy Keogh.

16:16: Grant saves a Kightly effort onto the post, presenting Iwelumo with a tap in for the third goal.

16:08: Wolves winger Matt Jarvis felled in the area, referee gives a penalty. Striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake converts.

16:02: Second-half kicks off, former Wolves striker Leon Clarke replaces Jermaine Johnson for Wednesday.

15:47: Half-time whistle blows.

15:44: Wolves winger Michael Kightly darts in from the right to meet the ball and goes for goal, with Grant pulling off a good save to palm the ball over the bar.

15:41: A bouncing ball into the box evades Collins and falls to Wednesday striker Deon Burton, who should have scored from 10 yards, but in the end it is easy for Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

15:32: Grant has to muscle through Iwelumo to grab a dangerous cross into the box.

15:28: Chris Iwelumo rises highest to head the Wolves equaliser home from Kevin Foley’s cross.

15:15: Esajas gets in ahead of Wolves defender George Elokobi to give Wednesday the lead.

15:07: Wolves captain Jody Craddock goes off with a knee injury, to be replaced by Neill Collins. Midfielder Karl Henry takes the armband.

15:03: A break out of defence ends with Wednesday’s Etienne Esajas shooting wide when he should have scored.

15:02: Jarvis, one of the smallest men on the pitch, goes up for a header which visiting goalkeeper Lee Grant does well to tip round the post.

15:00: Kick-off at Molineux.

14:30: Teamsheets are in: -

Wahoo Jarvis and Iwelumo in! great news. I think that this line up will show us where we are in terms of ability to get out of this division. If we win great, if we don’t then at least we know it is not down to team selection, but that we may still not be good enough!

Freddy, Freddy, Freddy… got a lucky goal against the mighty Barnsley. Well, in actual fact he crossed the ball, all the other Coventry forwards missed it and it went in. Oh Mick, you were such a fool to let the undisputed talent of Eastwood go. I know it’s only half-time in our second game of the season, but we aren’t beating Sheffield Wednesday by 6 clear goals so I think it’s time to pack your bags. The only thing that can save your job is if you bring back Freddy and he scores us lots of goals!!!

North London Wolf - get a grip. Complete jerk.

Jarvis must play, and Ward can play in his proper role as Forward as cover to Blake, Iwelumo, Keough.

We stil need a centre half and I dont think we are a million miles away….I still do not like MM BUT will back the team 100% as I support Wolves not MM

From a Baggie coming in peace. I’ve no problem with fans that go to the game. Not really a problem with fans who don’t go to games, their choice. But looking at the comments on here before half time sums up the ones I do have a problem with, the armchair experts. Every club has them, they listen to the game on the radio and pontificate on the manager, the players, the tactics. Somebody even said ‘that Beevers sounds a good player,’ how do you sound a good player? Perhaps the result will shut your muppet faction up for a bit. Oh b—-r, I’ve just realised they’ll be all over our site telling us what a great manager Merlin Mick is.
Anyway, to the supporters that actually support, Good Luck. Hope we’re both in the Prem next season when no doubt your armchair muppets might join us as well, it’s brought a few of ours out of the woodwork..

  70. HFT said:

Freddy who? Lets face it, things went on behind the scenes that we dont know about. Iwelumo is just the sort of striker we have been needing for a long time. If only Carl Cort could have remained injury free in his time with the club, he could have had a significant impact for us at this level. Iwelumo is big and powerful, and although he may not be the most effective of players, if he can get settled, he will score us 20 goals this season. And if that happens, we get promoted.

  71. Lupine said:

Credit where it’s due, Neil Collins played really well.

Well done Wolves. We are going to murder a lot of teams this season. I see us as the Man Utd of the Championship, no matter how many you score we will score more.

  75. tonymischi said:

Iwelumo..whose going to leave him out! 4 goals in two games…Not me thats for sure. I’ve a feeling were always going to score more than we conceed in this league this season. Looks like we need strength at the back…beevers looked good and stopped Kightly on more than one occassion.
hands up those who said..”Iwelumo we don’t need him what’s MM doing..” I never said it, but had my doubts.

  76. Billy Wrights curls said:

At last a sense that we can stop being the bridesmaid! However, one game is not a season, let’s see how we progress.

We all love the Wolves, but sometimes it’s hard to love the Wolves management!

OK, after a result like that we have to stop sniping and see how the season develops.

It is obvious that we are still missing a Mike Bailey type of player to take control of the centre, but the rest look the part.

Next home game I’ll be paying for a ticket!

  78. Breretonwolf said:

I have always been a supporter of Mick McCarthy, but have decided to join the sensible fans who think he should be sacked. My reasons are as follows:-

    1. He picked a defence that allowed a team to score a goal against us. (What?? They scored 4 last week?? Really??)

    2. He started a striker today that lots of us fans didn’t want him to sign, because he doesn’t score enough. (Chris Iwelumo) (What?? He scored twice today in addition to the two he scored on Tuesday?? Really??)

    3. We never put teams away when we do get on top. (What?? We won 4-1 today?? Really??

    4. We play boring football, and have no attacking flair. (What?? Both our strikers scored, and an attacking midfielder got the other?? Really??

    5. He always starts Ward no matter what. (What?? He started Jarvis on the wing, and Ward wasn’t in the squad?? Really??)

    6. He only plays Irish ex-Sunderland players, who are rubbish. (What?? He only started Foley and Craddock who fit either of those criteria?? Really??) (Okay, I admit he brought Keogh on as sub.)

    7. He never plays in-form players, and only plays his favourites. (What?? He started all of the in-form players, and dropped Ward and Keogh?? Really??)

    8. We will never get anywhere near the top six places with this Muppet in charge. (What?? We are in fourth place in the league?? Really??)

    9. He only gave Dave Edwards 5 minutes today. What can a player do in 5 minutes?? (What?? He scored a goal in that five minutes?? Really??

    10. He has no support in the stands any more!! (What?? All of the ground sang and cheered? Really??)

In that case then…. Super, Super Mick. Super, Super Mick. Super, Super Mick, Super Mick McCarthy!! I knew he would do a job for us!!

  79. Nick Phillips said:

I am off on my holiday now, and this thread has proved that for the most part Wolves fans on here are complete idiots.
I knew there would be a “here we go again” post as we had gone 0-1 down.

It is not worth the pain of logging in to see what the latest rubbish is that has been spouted.

The sooner some of you drop the “we are better than everyone else”, “we should be 3-0 up in ten minutes every game” mentality, the better.

This is, as per most seasons, the toughest league going, not just because the rewards for success are so high.

Come on me babbies, good luck Morgan, Moxey and more than all McCarthy, this seems to be a step up of a team we now have, and hopefully will lead us into the premiership next season.

Most of you on here really don’t deserve that.
I will quote my dad who says “Wolves fans were a moaning bunch of idiots fifty years ago” … will you ever learn….. Posts 9,11,12,13???
