Red bus and pies for a bostin’ bride

wd2972255wedding-eb-14.jpgForget Wayne Rooney and Coleen Mcloughlin – with the bride arriving on a Midland Red Bus before cutting into a three-tiered pork pie, Debbie Boddinson’s wedding is set to be the most talked about of the year.

This afternoon the 47-year-old barmaid was getting married in the Singing Cavern before a street party at the Black Country Living Museum where she works in the Bottle & Glass pub.

Debbie says she and husband-to-be Terry Woodward, aged 41, are so proud of local traditions that almost every part of their wedding has a Black Country theme.

“I will be arriving on a D9 Midland Red Bus, which Terry’s Dad used to work on,” said Debbie as she got  ready at her home on Dalwood Close in Coseley.

“My eldest daughter Emma is giving me away and Zoe, my youngest daughter is my bridesmaid.

“In my spare time I’m a singing coach and so will be singing my own entrance into the cavern and Zoe will be singing with me.

“Luckily the girls are not too nervous and they are used to me and my peculiar ideas. I already feel very pampered as I have had my nails done and, last night us three girls got rid of the men and had a nice girly night in.”

A local company is producing Debbie’s three-tiered pork pie and say they have even put pastry roses around the unique “cake”.

“They have actually cooked six tiers and are going to decide which ones look the best together,” says Debbie. “They have never done anything like this before and so they need to be sure they are going to get it right.

“I have worked at the Black Country Living Museum for 10 years and I came up with the idea for the wedding because I have always been interested in Black Country traditions.

“I haven’t felt nervous because it wouldn’t have felt right doing it any other way.

“At the end of the day a lot of people have lost touch with Black Country traditions and I want to show them how great they are.”
