Police seized drugs with a street value of up to £1 million, a loaded shotgun and a large quantity of cash during a raid at a home on a Dudley housing estate today.
Uniformed and CID officers acting on a tip off from members of the public executed a drugs warrant to swoop on a house in Ashenhurst Road on the Russells Hall Estate.
They found evidence of cannabis production in the loft and removed between 50 and 100 plants and also possible evidence of distribution of cannabis on a large scale.
They seized 26 boxes containing what officers believe could be pure cannabis destined for the streets. The haul is being sent to a laboratory for tests.
Officers said if tests prove it is pure cannabis it could potentially be worth up to £1 million, making it one of the largest hauls found in Dudley.
Detective Sergeant Andy Fennell, of Dudley CID, said: “The production in the loft appeared to be on a fairly low scale but the distribution seems huge.
“A loaded shotgun was also found under the bed and we have seized a quantity of cash from the property.
“At the moment we are looking into the possibility this could be part of a wider operation involving more than one person.”
Police were expected to spend most of the day at the house carrying out their investigations. A man has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.
Stunned neighbours were today unaware of the drama which had unfolded in the quiet residential street at 8.30am.
One person, who asked not to be named, said the first they knew anything was happening was when they spotted police in the street and said it was a shock to hear of this type of activity going on in the area.
