‘Ello, ‘ello, ‘ello, you can’t park there

wd2962552police-toddler-pa.jpgA furious shopper took this picture showing a police car brazenly parking in the parent and toddler spaces at a Black Country supermarket.

The man said he so was furious with the officer, who he says showed a “complete disregard for the law”, he had to take a snap on his mobile phone.

The picture was taken at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon at Wednesbury’s Morrisons store.

The young father, who doesn’t want to be named, was doing his weekly shop at the Holyhead Road store.

He had his three-year-old son in tow. “The car park wasn’t even full, he could have parked anywhere,” he said.

“It just really made me angry, there’s people who rely on those spaces, it’s like they think they are above the law,” the father added.

Katie Neasham from Morrisons said they relied on “honesty and goodwill” from their customers.

“We have a number of facilities and services in place designed to make shopping trips for customers with children more comfortable and convenient, reserved, designated car parking spaces being one of them,” she said.

“While in the main we depend on the honesty and goodwill of our customers to use dedicated car parking spaces appropriately, on many sites we employ specialist companies to manage and patrol our car parks.”

The officer responsible has now been reprimanded, police said today.

Chief Supt Steve Dugmore, commander for West Bromwich command unit, said: “We expect the highest standards from our officers.

“We have conducted internal inquiries in relation to this matter and the officer involved has been spoken to regarding appropriate behaviour,” Supt Dugmore added.
