A much-loved couple who run a popular Black Country chippy are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary tomorrow.
Ivan and Christine Rudge from Ivans Fish and Chips in Reddal Hill Road, Blackheath, will be marking the occasion with a holiday to Weymouth, where they honeymooned.
But it is not the first 50th anniversary the couple have shared. Last year they celebrated the half centenary of the chippy, which is now run by their son Warren.
Ivan, aged 74, said he met Christine, 73, on Cradley Heath High Street when he was 17. “It was a Sunday night and we always used to walk round the park and places like that and that’s where we met,” he said.
“She was with her friend and I was with my friend and we just got talking and from then on I went out with her.”
The couple wed at Old Hill Church. They have three children, Tracy, Warren and Carla and three grandchildren.
The couple have already had a family dinner to celebrate the occasion at The Mount in Clent and a party at Stone Manor.
As for the secret to a successful marriage – Mr Rudge says couples should learn to settle their problems together.
