Edwards close to moving

rob.jpgRob Edwards was withdrawn from Wolves’ friendly at Stafford Rangers last night as his proposed move to Blackpool looked set to go through.

Wolves are awaiting agreement from Tangerines chairman Karl Oyston over a fee in the region of £250,000 to £275,000 for the transfer-listed defender.

But boss Mick McCarthy decided to pull out Edwards – originally selected in the line-up at Marston Road – to help avoid the Welsh international getting injured.

A trialist – Ivory Coast’s former Toulouse man Issoumaila Dao – took his place alongside Darren Ward.

“Rob’s been talking to Blackpool and he didn’t play last night because I didn’t think it was worth the risk,” said McCarthy. “I think it will gr through.

“I’d love to see him play first team football because that’s what he needs.”

McCarthy said he wanted the transfer to go through to reward Edwards’s attitude.

“Hopefully for him it goes through because he’s been absolutely brilliant here, fabulous,” he added. His attitude and commitment have been fantastic, but I just think we’ve got better players at centre-half and that’s why I’m lettting him go.”

Good luck to the lad, I think it was the right thing for all concerned to let him go tho because he seemed injury prone.
Can’t fault his attitude tho, and acted like a true professional when told he was leaving by acting with dignity when talking to the press.

Rob Edwards is a great pro, been very unlucky with injuries.

Whenever you see a reserve game with him involved he’s always helping out and giving advice to the youngsters.

I for one wish him all the best.

Better players - presume Collins is included in that!!

I was there last night, Dao looked comfortable but was never tested. Looked pretty pacey but not saying much when you have Darren Ward to compare him to.

Offer Blackpool a BOGOFF and include Collins.

Good luck Rob, I will give you a clap from the south bank when you return!

All the best to a good pro and I hope he can stay injury free at Blackpool.

Unlucky with injuries and he will be Blackpool’s record signing. He carried Collins the season before last. I remember a 9/10 performance away to Ipswich and Stephen Ward scored a quality goal.
All the best. I am dreading either Eastwood, Bothroyd or Edwards having a good game against us!

  15. muppetout said:

a decent squad player, good back up,to a position where we are not strong, especially when we have collins. We need to fill this position quick, we will score more this season but we will let more in,

  16. Freddies Right Foot said:

Best of luck Rob, you are a true pro and have been a great asset to us and it’s only a shame that you were thwarted by injury but nevertheless you have been a credit to this club and I think I speak for most people when I say that we wish you all the best at Blackpool and we hope that the only off game you have is against us !!!

one of the only players that put 100% ever game he played. we’re losing a great defender. oh an rosa scored again for us, why doesnt he get a chance in the starting team, how can a player that keeps scoring not get into our midfield that scored hardly any goals last season.

Leave off Neil Collins lads! He ain’t the best, but he is young, fit and a trier, possible will get better and stop dropping so many clangers! We have him for 4 years now, so get use to it!
Rob Edwards, injury prone and be honest, of average championship ability. We need better.
All the best Rob, thanks for everything enjoy your time at the seaside.
Let’s hope we get the quality CB in now we all know we need. Our promotion chances depend on it, IMHO.

  19. Newbridge Wolf said:

All the best, never got to see the best of him due to his injuries.

Wolves will see this as cutting their losses, too many injuries and not enough games

  22. Tamworth Wolf said:

A good Pro indeed, deserves the chance of regular football, hope he can stay fit. Good luck Rob.

Perhaps the Collins knockers will lay off him and give him a chance to play in one position and not suffer as a result of MM seiing him as a utility player?

  23. Baggy 1 said:

Well good job you have that best ever signing S Ward, seems to me mad MM will get rid of anybody accept S Ward, your new hero, staying in the Fizzy pop the MM and your real owner Jez’s way, dont think that Morgan is real, just a wax dummy Jez brings out now and again.

rosa is utter pants mate , did bugga all against a non league team , although scored a good goal did nothing else all game and his passing is rubbish

  25. wolf said:

Can’t Joan Collins (donkey) go and play on the beach instead?

  26. wolf said:

22; collins ain’t any good in any position, he should be sent to the beach in Blackpool, he’d feel at home with the rest of the donkey’s!

  27. kiddywolf said:

unbeleivable….collins gets a 4 yr deal and edwards who in my opinion is a lot better gets farmed on to the transfer list…typical wolves. but still…i am a little optimistic for the season…hope davies gets a chance he deserves this year. iwelumo to start with SEB..

  28. laughingwolf said:

He’s a good lad cheers Rob. The above story is very clever about the pitch being lengthend. A great Idea, it also gets the opposition closer to the south and north bank which is a good idea as it can be quite ‘intimidating’ especially hearing get in to em, **** em up’ when you come out. At some away grounds they have a similar thing, Cardiff is the worst! I am predicting nothing but we will see some exciting games this year and my heart is always gold coated so I’m going to get behind the club I love so much. I played at the Mol in May with Tony Daley, David Kelly, Andy Thompson they were great lads and all said that mc carthy took over when they were all worried we were going down etc so great credit is deserved. Love the wolves. Whatever anyone says about supporting a club like ours, especially the ‘glory hunters’ you cant beat the feeling of seeing a whole hearted wolves game win or lose, the best club in the country. Everyone get behind the lads, come on me babbies!

good squad player but too many injurys, still better than collins & d.ward.a good bit of business getting a fee for him.

    good luck for the future

  33. MikeQB said:

Good luck, as mentioned above I think you are far better than Neil Collins. But as we all know MM has his favourites!

Could you take Steven Ward and Terry Connor with you please?

  34. wembley66 said:

18 Get real - If that is your and the supporters view - all you need is to be fit and try hard - think again. You cannot get out of this division with trying alone, you need some quality, paticularly at the back. Collins will only play as a last resort, I hope. Much as he is a nice guy he is not good enough, particularly if we do make it to the Premier. 4 year contract - NO WAY JOSE!!!

  35. Bridget & Tony said:

Rob Edwards far better than N Collins - Dan Jones scored a beauty against Stafford Rangers but will he get a chance with MM?

Dao recently had a trial with Doncaster and ends up having a trial with us last night? No disrespect to Bully and Stafford fans but not really much of a test for the lad

Still need a centre half with some pace to add to the squad - maybe a midfield general to boss the side aswell - Well we can all hope!

  36. wolvesmod said:

How some people can justify Neil Collins playing for Wolves, let alone being a professional footballer, is beyond me.

  37. media wolf pete said:

Good pro with the right attitude, but MM is doing the right thing in letting Rob go. Injury prone and I always felt he was a bit slow and awkward, especially when he was up againmst a pacy striker.

  38. phes-wolf (its open) said:

Anyone go to the game? how was the new centre back Dao (?)

  39. Baggy 1 said:

Tim DJ lets see when the season starts for the big teams, the team put out last night was a young team, just to give Walsall a game.

You have to laugh at the Albion fans that come on here to have a dig. A shocking pre-season for them. I am sure the Premiership is trembling at facing you.
At the most you have 5 players that are good enough. Get signing or you will be back down!

  48. NewYorkWolf said:

A good player with a cracking attitude. Its a shame to see him go. We’ve been waiting for another centre half for weeks now, surely this adds some urgency to it. It only takes a couple of knocks to Stearman and Craddock, then what are we left with if those two are out?
We are roughly 2 million up on transfers this summer, I would like to see that spent or at least a quick young centre half from one of the Prem clubs in on loan.
I’m full of optimism for this season, but this area surely needs strengthening.

  49. maltawolf said:

there you go again, every time you post a comment you mention s ward.
you might want to concentrate on the fact you aint signed 1 decent player.any decent players you want are turning you down.
going down the tony moany way without a smile on your faces of course.

  53. Bridget & Tony said:

42 Couldnt make it up any better could we?

    44 LOL Wishfull thinking

  54. Bridget & Tony said:

Dao - No timeframe on him joining the club or having a trial??? Does that mean “no sense of urgency” or simply not bothered?

Whilst Stearman seems to be a vast improvment; one knock/ injury and we are back to square one with centre half’s - our choices are: Craddock D Ward, and of course N Collins

Will that mean that MM would go back to his 8 man defence if we had any injuries?
