Squirrels, bed bugs and cockroaches have been discovered in doctors’ living quarters at Dudley’s main hospital, it was revealed in a report out today.
The problems were reported in the residential block of Russells Hall Hospital.
It reveals Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust called in pest controllers 18 times between January 2006 and April 2008 to deal with a catalogue of infestations of wasps, flies, pigeons and other vermin at its buildings.
Controllers were called out to deal with a mouse, which came through the main entrance of the new Guest Hospital in April 2007.
A swarm of fruit flies invaded the X-ray department in the clinical block at Russells Hall Hospital in June last year and in March filter flies were found.
The eye clinic at the old Guest Hospital had problems with five infestations of ants in the corridor and pigeons found roosting in the old tower.
Chief executive of Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust, Paul Farenden, said pest control was taken “very seriously” to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
A spokesman from the Patients Association said the findings were “truly revolting”.
