Mowbray still hopeful of signings

mowbray2.jpegAlbion boss Tony Mowbray is still hoping to land more new signings before the start of the season.

The Baggies manager is standing firm by his Hawthorns wage structure, despite missing out on Madjid Bougherra last week, while talks over Bolton defender Abdoulaye Meite have also broken down.

Mowbray still believes he could strengthen before his side play Arsenal in the Premier League curtain-raiser.

He said: “The search continues. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes.

“Some targets get pretty close and then disappear. We continue to get closer to the finish line with other targets.

“Yes, I would like a few more bodies in, but they have to be of the right quality. If you can’t get the right quality you just have to keep going.

“I would hope there will be a few more coming in before the season starts. Sometimes the expectations from players’ advisors are way beyond where we can go and that’s fine by me.

“We’ve got a wage structure and the players all understand that. It’s a philosophy I try to have and it won’t be broken.

“Hopefully we will find the right quality in people who want to come and play for our club. They will be a part of something that hopefully is going to be successful.

“We will keep pushing on with the efforts and hopefully we will bring that quality in.”

Mowbray is still refusing to be drawn on which of his goalkeepers will start the season, with Scott Carson and Dean Kiely still vying for the No 1 jersey.

He said: “The season is pretty close to us but at this moment I am just giving then both an opportunity to stake their claim. I thought they both did very well again on Saturday.

“They didn’t have masses to do but whatever they did they did efficiently.”

TM won’t be drawn on which goalkeeper starts… At this rate you’ll have to play both if you want 11 on the field ;-)

being tall doeent make you a centre half, u dont wanna go down the road of playing players out of position, it dosent work at the mol and it deffo wont work for u imo.

stewart, go and get yourself ready for your trip to Plymouth, theres a good lad and stop posting silly little jealous bits of tripe.
There will be definitely be more signings, 3 by next sat and 2 loanees in the last few days before the window shuts. Its been frustrating but our wage structure is the stumbling block and thats the same for about a third of the clubs in the prem.

The more I read on this site the more evidence that the Wolves fans have a massive problem with us, an even bigger problem than we already knew. Keep to your own section, we don’t want half wits posting stupid remarks on our section.

Go start getting yourselves ready for your trip to Plymouth instead ay.

100% agree with TM and JP’s philosophy . We have a pay structure and we SHOULD stick to it. If more clubs did this instead of caving in to unrealistic wages football would be in a much stronder position. After all the are just footballers!!! they are not saving lives or in some cases willing to give there lives for the country. Just people who get paid far to much to play a game (RANT OVER)

We made many signings last season late on and I expect the same this season. We didn’t do bad last season did we?
Bitter Wolves fans - still trying to poke fun are we? I guess you think you are going to take the champ by storm again like you thought last season, and the season before, and before that, etc etc etc. Perennnial underachievers.

JP’S philiosphy at the monet is to get maximum return on his investment, which means trying to keep albion up speanding very little balancing the books so he can sell for maximum value. As i predicted no interested buyers and what i laughed off no billionaires interested. No shirt sponsor, reduced capacity, club for sale, mowbrays anger at lack of money and if it looks likely in jan/feb that you are going down i think he will quit as he will not want a relegation on his CV because of a lack of backing from the chairman. Sorry guys you are doomed and the future of the club looks uncertain, even league 2 clubs have no problems getting sponsors?!

Whilst I agree with the pay structures, we are never going to establish ourselves as a Premiership club if we don’t become a bit more flexible. As the squad stands now we will struggle big time.

You’ve actually written some sense for a small amount of time) when talking about Peace running the club like a business…..better to do so than run it like a hobby or a toy that drains a golden tit dry with no reward…..or was that good business by Sir Jack?
No sponsor - can’t believe you lot are still using that as your main point - well done!!
    Reduced capacity - better facilities.
If it looks like we’re going down in Jan you think Mogga will walk? That wouldn’t make sense either, why go through all the trouble of disassembling a squad, build up a new one, install a footballing ethos in a club, get promotion in order to prove your worth at the highest level to just walk away?
I look forward to your knowledeable, balanced and well thought out retort.

I really hope we do bring in new players asap, becuase its important we have a good start to the season ok arsenal aside anything out of that game is a bonus, but bolton away and everton at home is potentially 2-4 points, if we were to loose our first 3 games before the window, think this would really affect us for the rest of the season because it will affect the players confiedence and would also upset the majority of our fans. For the moment, put aside your disdain for the Albion, and lets talk facts, instead of conjecture or that you want us to fail.

You spend enough time on these boards to know that the position with the sponsor, is a case of not being able to get one, but rather whom, and how much.

The remainder of your posts follow the same tired road,
    we are going down.
    Our manager is leaving.
    The clubs future is uncertain.
And the oldest chestnut of the lot, we will be changing places in a year.

Oh and an older chestnut even older than the other oldest one, Bigger club blah blah……..
lets for one peco second say that that is true,
    so what ?
at the current time, and that is all that matters, is we are BETTER, and by a considerable margin.

  22. laughingwolf said:

    wbaforever ok let’s talk facts.

Fact 1- I told you all that Albion would have much interest. I was correct.

Fact 2- Albion could not find a shirt sponsor with a seven figure deal.

Fact 3- Your clubs majority share holder and Chairman has the club for sale and will therefore want the maximum possible return on his investment so he wont be putting milliuons in as this will be money he will lose upon completion of a sale.

Fact 4- Gera (in my and many albion fans opinion) your best player has left and phillips your top scorer has also left making you considerably weaker. Whether your new signings work out only time will tell.

Fact 5- I do have bias to my beloved Wolves but I have been right regarding the sale of albion and your shirt sponsors so it’s very hard to even challenge somebody when they have repeatedly been right

  23. Baggie Boy said:

13.. I agree but a stand has to be made sooner or later

Fact one, i presume you mean, there was no interest ?
but as i say, it really is only conjecture on your part, unless you have insider information, and KNOW it to be fact.

    The same for fact two.

Fact three, i concede there is a semblance of reason there, but we have spent a fair amount,
and i expect more signings before KO.

Fact four re: Gera is opinion so not actually a fact.

Fact five, You`re right to bias toward your club, i am bias toward mine, but i do not post spite filled messages, if you are honest with yourself, you know that this is indeed FACT.

I do not usually respond to your blogs.

However i think your comments today have had an element of debate to them (as you know usually they take the form of childish remarks, and the worn out my clubs better than your club futile argument).
I to agree that our investment in the squad has been disappointing, so far.
I think my fellow bloggers probably jump on you due to past remarks, however i think it is pretty foolish to start making out that you are proven correct, especially when i have access to old statments made by yourself last season.
ie, “You will choke when it comes to automatic promotion”.
    or
“You will fail to make it as Champions as you are an average Championship side”.

I seem to beleive you went missing from our boards for a while!!!
Welcome back, where you busy in the fluctuating financial market??
Or is KFC quiet during the summer??

32.. I take it we have not got any talented youngsters (I presume under 25 is a youngster). Have we not got a England under 16 goalkeeper have we not got 2 lads England u17/18 have we not signed a young dutch lad,Have we not signed an Full England goalkeeper thats 22ish do you wish for me to continue because I could go on.

Why have our best players gone whilst at the Albion Gera was average and Phillips was over the hill (Wolves fans words not mine) so suddenly they leave and become world beaters (my words).

To be fair I think we did peak last year because we won the League and in all honesty to better that we would have to win the Premier League and in all honesty I really dont think we can do that this forthcoming season.

I suppose Wolves are going to win the league again this season like they where going to win it last and correct me if I’m wrong but was tipped by quite a few pundits to go up as Champions, on what basis I’ll never know! 30 - You’re right Happy, Harte preferred no commitment than being a squad member with limited contractual protection and the likelihood of just being a squad player. Can’t say I blame him but maybe it shows a little shortage of self confidence. Very similar to Phillips choosing a longer term contract in the championship rather than a deal with a premiership club. Mowbray performed wonders last season and I hope he will get the backing he deserves. I’m totally in favour of a sound wage structure and if that means losing out on some players now to protect the long term interests of the club the choice is a no brainer. But this shirt sponsor situation smacks of amateurism, I hope its not another case of a black country club shooting themselves in the foot when the window of opportunity is open.

Honestly laughed at wolf… if you are even a fraction of the businessman you go to such lengths to convince us about, surely you would have some modicum of self respect and not make yourself look like such an ar*e on here day after day - even your fellow wolves fans laugh at you.

No one but you is remotely interested in a “quote” a player may have made months ago - but every day you revel in it like it gives you some superiority… it’s childish nonsense and if you really are a businessman (or even a grown up) you really should just move on.

Once again you have bored me to the point where i shall just ignore you again - I said that before but forgot about it when you disappeared.

53 - in what way has JP refused to release funds for a player ??

Do you think we can attract top players just cos we would pay the transfer fee ??

Its hard for any newly promoted side to bring in top players - I’m just amazed at the quality we have brought in.

He has already publicly stated that he would need financial backing to really establish us - and be able to pay 30k+ per week to players… but in my opinion he is doing well with the resourses he has.
