Jay Bothroyd returns to the scene of his last public appearance for Wolves tonight – as he makes his debut for Cardiff at Chasetown.
He makes an immediate return to the region, following his move to the Bluebirds for a fee rising to £300,000.
The much-travelled 26-year-old will be seeking to make an immediate impression at the Scholars Ground, where he played but didn’t score in a 4-1 Wolves reserves win on July 18.
Chasetown boss Charlie Blakemore is delighted with the challenge of hosting Bothroyd again.
He said: “It will be fantastic to see Jay here again and it will be great if there are two or three first team players as well.
“Jay has played against us once already and our defenders are still chasing him! He’s quick and it will be a big test for us.
“He’s had a few chances and hopefully Dave Jones will get the best out of him, because he has that much talent, as we saw at Wolves.”
The game evokes memories of last season’s epic FA Cup run, where Chasetown made history as the lowest-ranked team to reach the third round and took the lead against finalists Cardiff before losing 3-1.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said: “Jay certainly contributed to the team when he was here and scored some important goals.
“He was made available for transfer because he was no longer part of our plans but we wish him well for the future.”

“He was made available for transfer because he was no longer part of our plans but we wish him well for the future.” “Lazy” would be the one word to some it up!!
LAZY , sums him up!!!
Must be the most frustrating player ever at the wloves since ive supported then (been riding the rollercoaster since the early 70s).
Has everything to be an absolute top player, good with both feet, in the air, if only he would realise how he is wasting his talent….
I will be at chasetown tonight just like i was there a week ago when Jay played for the wolves he was bloody lazy that night will be interesting to see which jay turns up tonight seeing though he has to impress his new club……………Bye Jay thanks for the goal against Tesco town …..but you wont be missed
Chasetown is about his level.
Hope the defenders get stuck into him.
Good Ridence.
p.s. Great business AGAIN by Jez Moxey to find someone who would pay a fee for this clown.
When I saw the headline I thought he’d signed for Chasetown. That would have been worth a punt I suppose but a league side, What’s DJ thinking?
Mick wasn’t good enough to bring out the best in him. The bigger question is whether anyone can…over to you Dave
Jay = Idle
Maybe DJ will get him to give 100 percent? Who knows. Many good managers have tried and failed. If he wasn’t a footballer he would be watching Jeremy Kyle and Trisha everyday eating pizza.
Cardiff were really struggling for strikers to start the season. The 300K rumoured fee is probably the monthly wages of JFH and Fowler that they’ve managed to get off the books.
Grace - indeed another excellent job from Moxey. The sale of Bothroyd and Eastwood this summer equate to exactly the fee we paid for Eastwood a year ago (excluding inflation, salaries etc).
Who Cares?
Signed in desperate times and how it showed. Not good enough, journeyman with massive chip on shoulder. If he was half as good as he thinks he is then he would be England captain !
Good riddance you overpaid waste of space.
Do Cardiff want S ward !
post 13 lol
Hull came in for him at last min,but he wanted to go to Cardiff
12,
