Bothroyd hints at Wolves exit

jay.jpgJay Bothroyd has hinted he will leave Wolves as speculation continues to rage about his future.

League One Leeds have had a bid rising to £300,000 accepted for the transfer-listed striker, yet the 26-year-old is in no hurry to rejoin his former Coventry team-mate Gary McAllister at Elland Road.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has already stated that ‘three or four Championship clubs’ have also lodged interest in the striker.

Speaking through his ‘Icons’ website, Bothroyd pretty much conceded that his two-year stay at Molineux is over.

He said: “Technically I’m a Wolves player, although it looks like we’re going to be parting ways.

“I’m back in training. I’m still training at Wolves because I’ve got a year left on my contract here.

“A decision hasn’t been made yet as to where I’m going to be going. I’m training here until I hear otherwise.

“I’m just keeping my head down and keeping myself really fit. I’ve been back in training since the start of the month.”

Bothroyd is one of 11 players – of which seven are transfer-listed – who been left out of the club’s Scottish tour.

Just going back to the Ian harte story. I wonder why elokobi is now a prospect in the center? Elokobi is no center back. he really is very average and a few lucky performances at the end of the season are fooling no-one.

But, Harte needs a contract and Mick knows that Harte is much better than Elokobi will ever be in that position, now he can’t drop elokobi, so he has to move him…. at the expense of (probably) Craddock. Who was our best defender last season IMO.

    shame

We still need another decent striker in my view. That was our main problem last season and will probably be the same this! If Seb is injured - then what?

I think the midfield needs creativity and quality and we haven’t yet got it!

    I hope I’m wrong about all this….

Blimey - is the penny finally starting to drop then Jay..?

    Typical of his attitude… lazy.

Happier to be kicking his heels in the reserves but still getting a fat wage than lower his salary and play 90mins of league football week in - week out.

Get rid of this waster quick - he has been the same wherever he has been - how many clubs is that now Bothroyd..? 11..12..?

I wish he’d shown a bit more of the aggression he’s displaying in this picture. It’s really a disgrace that aplayer of his ability is on the market for 300k and being approached by first dicivision clubs at age 26. At times during that first season he seemed to ve everything, strength ball control, passing ability a blistering shot and reasonable in the air. But too often he gave performances like the second leg of the play-off where he completely disappeared, not even jumping for balls in the air just looking for free-kicks as defenders jumped over him. I guess he won’t be the first player with the wrong attitude to waste tremendous talent.

I liked Bothroyd. Frustrating at times, yes; inconsistent, yes but a very gifted footballer who always had the ability to do something a bit different. Scored some very good goals but his overall contribution wasn’t consistent enough. However, some of the stick he got (sometimes during the warm-up!) was unbelievable and not always justified. I wish him well.

Good luck to him, have no axe to grind with him, but people keep saying he is “gifted” and I just don’t get it?

In what way is he “gifted”? That he can take long pots from 35 yards and blast them into the crowd?

I think I possess the same gift.

Paul Scholes is gifted, Dennis Bergkamp is gifted, Eric Cantona was gifted, as was Paul Gascgoine and Zola. Surely we are not placing Bothroyd in this bracket.

Can any one answer me this?

If we a club with any ambition whatsover, then havent we bought a centre half ?? Let’s face it
if we had spent £2mill on that centre half, instead of £1.5 we offered, then if we would promotion it’s worth £30 mill ++ . So, I can only assume this club has no ambition, and the manager has no confidence whatsoever in getting us promoted.

Furthermore, this ‘young and hungry’ plays right into the managers hands, because it gives him an excuse, before even a ball has been kicked, to use the fact the teams young, and is therefore developing, therefore wont get us up.

And finally McCarthy, your comments about parachute payments are utter rubbish as usual. You stated that the teams with the parachute payments have the big advantage, well try telling that to Stoke and Hull!!!!

Get Moxey out. Great accountant, knows nothing about football on the field.

  27. Happy_baggie said:

14 & 17 - if you judge a player only on scoring against us then its very sad…. however when he’s the only one I guess you have to take what you can get…. it would be like me thanking hartson for scoring against you lot (although he was just one of many that did).

  30. Marlow Wolf said:

Please just go. I will never forgive you for the sub performance first gsme against Watford last season. It was a disgrace, all you were asked to do was hold the ball up for 8 minutes and you gave it away time and time again and gave them confidence to come back into it. Then you bottle it in the wall and “score” for them to win!
Should have been sold months ago!

    richwolf,

get your facts right, Bothroyd signed for Wolves before McCarthy arrived.

As for talking rubbish, you seem to have had plenty of experience at it. Clubs with parachute payments DO have a financial advantage, it is whether these clubs are able to use that advantage, not squander it like Watford and Sheffield United did last season and we did 3 years ago.

Bothroyd: The most talented player at the club. Can’t disagree that he could be frustrating but in his first season with a good run of games he was stunning, especially with Keogh. Never got a proper run last season and so never really clicked in. But I’m telling you, given an extended run this man would be the difference. And all this lazy nonsense is quite dull. He upped his work rate no end last season when given his chance, do some of you knockers actully go to the game? Or do you just choose to see what you want???

We are just waiting for the right deals to come along, being a premiership side we don’t have to dive in at the first offer that comes along, unlike chumpionship sides like wulfs. It’s called good business practice, just ask Wuster Wulfs, he would say “I didn’t get where I am today by diving in at the first offer”.
Oh, and by the way we pouffy sheep drink pink champagne, not water.

55 - billy No mates - i finally managed to read your misspelt drivel - only to find it full of jealousy because we are playing prem football again.

You can talk about Arsenal beating us all you like - at least we won’t be getting turned over by forest and preston.

Just accept that you are a bunch of 2nd division, mid-table, underachieving no-hopers !!

  68. Prawn Sandwich said:

Not one to hold grudges but…
That first game against Watford last season. With hindsight his showboating cost us a playoff place at least and maybe even a premiership spot.
It was without doubt the most inept performance I’ve ever seen in a Wolves shirt(and there have been a few) He just hadn’t the brains to realise we just needed to hold on to the ball. I could go on but I suppose it’ll change nothing.
Perhaps we should stick a £30million transfer fee on him instead of £300,000 so we can get back the money he may have cost us!

  69. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    67. “Just accept that you are a bunch of 2nd division, mid-table, underachieving no-hopers !!”

    What exactly is your problem?

You know deep down Wolves are a big club who deserve to be in the Premiership. As for mid table - we’ve missed out on promotion not by much the last two seasons and we haven’t even played well. When our young squad reaches it’s potential we’ll make the Prem. And we’ll damn well stay there. Albion are a yo-yo club and will get a lesson in football from Arsenal.

  73. Golden Blood said:

I have to agree Baggies. Some Wolves fans play right into your hands.

“he’s rubbish, the worst player every, mad Mick is useless”.

Un yet we finished 7th last season in a disastourous season.

I will be happy with play offs this season, anything better is a bonus.

We have no god given right to the premier league. SO support what we have lads and get right behind. Stop battering then over the head till thaty admit they are crap.

If Mick McCarthy was a quitter do you think we would be half as succesful as we aregoing to be.

There is going to be some humble pie eaten on this board, and I am sure you will all be happy to eat some.

As for Jay, good luck fella.
