Jay Bothroyd has hinted he will leave Wolves as speculation continues to rage about his future.
League One Leeds have had a bid rising to £300,000 accepted for the transfer-listed striker, yet the 26-year-old is in no hurry to rejoin his former Coventry team-mate Gary McAllister at Elland Road.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has already stated that ‘three or four Championship clubs’ have also lodged interest in the striker.
Speaking through his ‘Icons’ website, Bothroyd pretty much conceded that his two-year stay at Molineux is over.
He said: “Technically I’m a Wolves player, although it looks like we’re going to be parting ways.
“I’m back in training. I’m still training at Wolves because I’ve got a year left on my contract here.
“A decision hasn’t been made yet as to where I’m going to be going. I’m training here until I hear otherwise.
“I’m just keeping my head down and keeping myself really fit. I’ve been back in training since the start of the month.”
Bothroyd is one of 11 players – of which seven are transfer-listed – who been left out of the club’s Scottish tour.

Reminds me of myself a bit, to inconsistant. Good luck Jay. Will never be forgot for your winner against the boggies.
Moments of brilliance, (leeds Utd)punctuated by moments of madness..V Watford (headless chicken)
Still thanks for you time served, all the best where ever you end up…Jay!
Just going back to the Ian harte story. I wonder why elokobi is now a prospect in the center? Elokobi is no center back. he really is very average and a few lucky performances at the end of the season are fooling no-one.
But, Harte needs a contract and Mick knows that Harte is much better than Elokobi will ever be in that position, now he can’t drop elokobi, so he has to move him…. at the expense of (probably) Craddock. Who was our best defender last season IMO.
shame
We still need another decent striker in my view. That was our main problem last season and will probably be the same this! If Seb is injured - then what?
I think the midfield needs creativity and quality and we haven’t yet got it!
I hope I’m wrong about all this….
The only jay in the village
Blimey - is the penny finally starting to drop then Jay..?
Typical of his attitude… lazy.
Happier to be kicking his heels in the reserves but still getting a fat wage than lower his salary and play 90mins of league football week in - week out.
Get rid of this waster quick - he has been the same wherever he has been - how many clubs is that now Bothroyd..? 11..12..?
Move on. Flashes of brilliance but no consistency!
I wish he’d shown a bit more of the aggression he’s displaying in this picture. It’s really a disgrace that aplayer of his ability is on the market for 300k and being approached by first dicivision clubs at age 26. At times during that first season he seemed to ve everything, strength ball control, passing ability a blistering shot and reasonable in the air. But too often he gave performances like the second leg of the play-off where he completely disappeared, not even jumping for balls in the air just looking for free-kicks as defenders jumped over him. I guess he won’t be the first player with the wrong attitude to waste tremendous talent.
Another talonted player goes by the weighside under Thick Mick’s Stuart-ship. I’ll have Jay for the mixers if he wants some competitive football to keep sharpe. No drinkin b4 games tho.
Jay u need to have a word with Bully for a run out with Stafford, thats about ur level!! 2 moments of quality (leeds & boggies) just aint good enough for your time at Wolves.
Glad to get you off the wage bill… bye bye!!
what a shame ethics to work for the team didnt match his footballing ability .because his first season showed he has got a lot to offer he just needs something to to bring out his natural goalscoring abilities on a regular basis he is as capable as anyone in this div if only he could be botherd
Two words…
Workshy freeloader
So glad your going Jay. All your previous managers have said the same…. The player has bags of abillity but he just can’t seem to apply it on the pitch consistantly.
G00D luck jay thanks for your goal against the tescos WOLVES FOR EVER
Good riddance to you Bothroyd! You showed promise but never really got it out on match day! Oh sorry you did a few times. whoopy doo.
When i read MM talking about having !harty” at the back i thought he meant Russel…
Good Luck Jay, and thanks for the goals especially the one against the Tesco’s
Get rid asap - not worthy to wear a wolves shirt again!
I liked Bothroyd. Frustrating at times, yes; inconsistent, yes but a very gifted footballer who always had the ability to do something a bit different. Scored some very good goals but his overall contribution wasn’t consistent enough. However, some of the stick he got (sometimes during the warm-up!) was unbelievable and not always justified. I wish him well.
I no friendlies do not mean a lot but the mighty Albion - that all their fans think are going to hold their own in the Premiership - are yet to win a friendly yet!
They have the audacity to come on our pages and slag everyone connected with the largest club in the Black Country!
bags of talent, pity the bag was superglued and couldnt be opened! good player when he put a shift in…….erm can’t remember him doing that either!
went down quicker than gretna at the slightest touch from an opponent
rather have seb and keogh any day
Good luck to him, have no axe to grind with him, but people keep saying he is “gifted” and I just don’t get it?
In what way is he “gifted”? That he can take long pots from 35 yards and blast them into the crowd?
I think I possess the same gift.
Paul Scholes is gifted, Dennis Bergkamp is gifted, Eric Cantona was gifted, as was Paul Gascgoine and Zola. Surely we are not placing Bothroyd in this bracket.
‘Speaking through his ‘Icons’ website’(?)
Don’t think you understand the meaning of the word ‘icon’ Jay!
you could have been in many Wolves fans eyes, but you blew it big time.
(one less Baby Bentley in the Mol car park though)
Cant blame MM for Boothroyds failings, cya.
good riddance . One of far too many poor acquisitions by MM.
Can any one answer me this?
If we a club with any ambition whatsover, then havent we bought a centre half ?? Let’s face it
if we had spent £2mill on that centre half, instead of £1.5 we offered, then if we would promotion it’s worth £30 mill ++ . So, I can only assume this club has no ambition, and the manager has no confidence whatsoever in getting us promoted.
Furthermore, this ‘young and hungry’ plays right into the managers hands, because it gives him an excuse, before even a ball has been kicked, to use the fact the teams young, and is therefore developing, therefore wont get us up.
And finally McCarthy, your comments about parachute payments are utter rubbish as usual. You stated that the teams with the parachute payments have the big advantage, well try telling that to Stoke and Hull!!!!
Get Moxey out. Great accountant, knows nothing about football on the field.
14 & 17 - if you judge a player only on scoring against us then its very sad…. however when he’s the only one I guess you have to take what you can get…. it would be like me thanking hartson for scoring against you lot (although he was just one of many that did).
good luck Jay you always did your best for Wolves.
Happy Baggie Have you lot found a sponsor yet?? as there are a few of us who have had a whip round and weve come up with ” Norfolk & Chance ” to go on the front of your shirts for next season.. What do you think!!
Please just go. I will never forgive you for the sub performance first gsme against Watford last season. It was a disgrace, all you were asked to do was hold the ball up for 8 minutes and you gave it away time and time again and gave them confidence to come back into it. Then you bottle it in the wall and “score” for them to win!
Should have been sold months ago!
Billa wolves, are you watching the same Jay Bothroyd as everybody else? All the ability but with no desire? Did his best for us, you are having a laugh right?
28. Tim DJ.
We have a better chance of staying in the premiership than you do of reaching it. I presume that the the “DJ” stands for Dead Jealous?.
Good Lucj Jay and thanks for that wonderful goal that made Wolverhampton rise–Given to flashes of brilliance but not consistent and for big lad you fall down an awful lot mate–At Leeds you will probably do well I hope so ‘
Good luck Jay!
A good signing at a time when we were looking downwards not up!
But how soon the memory fades with some.
Happy
Think many of your fans did when Hartson left. Pot Kettle.
richwolf,
get your facts right, Bothroyd signed for Wolves before McCarthy arrived.
As for talking rubbish, you seem to have had plenty of experience at it. Clubs with parachute payments DO have a financial advantage, it is whether these clubs are able to use that advantage, not squander it like Watford and Sheffield United did last season and we did 3 years ago.
Jay could have been a club idol, but he was to idol, best of luck Jay.
An average player at best. We need to get rid of a lot more yet if we want to reduce the wage bill.
Two memorable goals in two years, not a great return.
Bye
9….Were you the policeman in ‘Allo ‘allo?
soggy wolves bothroyd was mccarthys 2nd signing
26) Are you classing Stearman as a right back? He will be a quality addition. We might well need another but do if they do sign someone I very much doubt whether they will drop Jody and quite frankly he does not deserve to be dropped.
32- Sorry to dissapoint you sheepinpuffsclothing but computer says NO!! none of your fans can answer a simple question like why cant you get a shirt sponsor or why cant you get a replacment chairman is it something in the water??
E&S get some absolute clowns posting, but their is no-one more hypocritical and up their own backside than happy baggie.
I known he is a wind up merchant, so congratulations for this one.
HAPPY BAGGIE it,s ok for you tesco,s to wish KP all the best when he went to blue,s with a parting shot of still stick it in the back of the dingles net but not ok for us to thank jay for sticking it in the back of your net MORON WOLVES FOR EVER
Oli, Happy Baggie is a prat. Not worth getting flustered about, he can’t have much going on in his life as he spends most of it on here. Which is rather sad if you think about it. He’s like a clever version of Terry the dumpty which isn’t hard is it.
Always destined to be a nearly man, in the same way Cort was,.. but if he had showed more passion and lots more effort he would have been a half decent player. but still wish him all the best for the future.
to be fair villa couldn’t get a shirt sponsor either. Anyone who thinks they just “gave away” a few million ££’s is not thinking right.
They got some good PR out of it though
Good luck Jay, it did’nt work out for you here, the so called fans getting on yer back did’nt help but hey all the best mate, hope it works out for you.
Useless baby bothroyd is- get rid on a free transfer- bring in David Weir and Stephen Carr in defence, bring Rohan Ricketts back to the club and Michael Ricketts- ex England striker- still quality
What he has in ability he lacks in effort and commitment-another Eastwood in my eyes. The quicker he goes the better!
16 Happy Baggie. Now we know all Sandwell Sado’s only recognise dead men walking. God knows you have enough of them at the “berry” ground.
Thanks very much oli - I consider you suitably wound.
Sooner he goes the better
Oli-calm down he is looking forward to the pasting he will get at At the Emerittes-It not worth getting all et up over such an idiot-Baggies fans are doing alot of posting but their site is so abismal thats why they try yo winde us up–Keep calm mate-Sandwell are heading for a fall lets hope they make more points than Derby—Good draw at Motherwell only a friendly so difficult to comment–To the future Wolves men onwards and upwards we shall go–Crazey Dave
when he says ‘technically I’m still a Wolves player’ he means we are paying his wages.
Thanks for nowt
Taxi for Bothroyd
thnx 4 baggies game but i watched him against chase town n he was terrible !!
tackled everytime
richwolf64,you really are a spanner, what do you want a team of 40 somethings, as for moxey out-he doesn’t have to know about football on the field, that’s why you have a manager!
You so “called” fans really make me laugh, we ain’t kicked off the season yet and already you are on MM and moxeys back, if you don’t like it STAY AWAY-you wont be missed.
Please go now and take Mcarthy with you!!
Richwolves(26) what a fool!
moxey is great at his job-most wolves fans can c!
and a new centre half does not mean we will def get promotion!
i love it how some wolves fans think they know everythin about football and players!!!
Mick will sign who he wants too,90% of his signings are worth more now than what we payed for them, only short sighted(and those who ca remember the really bad times) think mick has done a bad job-we only had 13 players when he took over!!!!
one nil winner never to be forgotten, Jay you will always get a cheer!
Shirt sponsor yo yo boggies!
36. soggy wolves
You know NOTHING! McCarthy signed this waste of space, just like the others that nobody else wants at ANY price!
Get to know about football first, then contribute to the discussion, not the other way round!
ta raa jay all the skill in the world in the wrong hands
40.
At the risk of incurring the wrath of TimDJ. Love your name and the comment. Ilaireus.
Bothroyd: The most talented player at the club. Can’t disagree that he could be frustrating but in his first season with a good run of games he was stunning, especially with Keogh. Never got a proper run last season and so never really clicked in. But I’m telling you, given an extended run this man would be the difference. And all this lazy nonsense is quite dull. He upped his work rate no end last season when given his chance, do some of you knockers actully go to the game? Or do you just choose to see what you want???
43. Tim DJ (Dopey Jackass).
We are just waiting for the right deals to come along, being a premiership side we don’t have to dive in at the first offer that comes along, unlike chumpionship sides like wulfs. It’s called good business practice, just ask Wuster Wulfs, he would say “I didn’t get where I am today by diving in at the first offer”.
Oh, and by the way we pouffy sheep drink pink champagne, not water.
45 - “MORON WOLVES FOR EVER”… just about says it all really.
46 - and you are like a stupid version of 45.
55 - billy No mates - i finally managed to read your misspelt drivel - only to find it full of jealousy because we are playing prem football again.
You can talk about Arsenal beating us all you like - at least we won’t be getting turned over by forest and preston.
Just accept that you are a bunch of 2nd division, mid-table, underachieving no-hopers !!
Not one to hold grudges but…
That first game against Watford last season. With hindsight his showboating cost us a playoff place at least and maybe even a premiership spot.
It was without doubt the most inept performance I’ve ever seen in a Wolves shirt(and there have been a few) He just hadn’t the brains to realise we just needed to hold on to the ball. I could go on but I suppose it’ll change nothing.
Perhaps we should stick a £30million transfer fee on him instead of £300,000 so we can get back the money he may have cost us!
Only memorable goals were against Leeds and the West Brummies.
Good luck Jay, you are lazy but have undoubted talent, Perhaps they will get the best out of you at Leeds.
Tell ya what, It’s so funny reading the wolves stories, laughing at the dingles arguing amongst themselves!!
You’ll be doing it for a few more years yet under Mad Mick in the fizzy pop league!!
BOING BOING PREMIER LEAGUE AND LOVIN’ IT!!!!
70 Tell us what you think after the first 10 games or even after the 1st game?
Care to give us all a score prediction for the 1st game???
67. “Just accept that you are a bunch of 2nd division, mid-table, underachieving no-hopers !!”
What exactly is your problem?
You know deep down Wolves are a big club who deserve to be in the Premiership. As for mid table - we’ve missed out on promotion not by much the last two seasons and we haven’t even played well. When our young squad reaches it’s potential we’ll make the Prem. And we’ll damn well stay there. Albion are a yo-yo club and will get a lesson in football from Arsenal.
I have to agree Baggies. Some Wolves fans play right into your hands.
“he’s rubbish, the worst player every, mad Mick is useless”.
Un yet we finished 7th last season in a disastourous season.
I will be happy with play offs this season, anything better is a bonus.
We have no god given right to the premier league. SO support what we have lads and get right behind. Stop battering then over the head till thaty admit they are crap.
If Mick McCarthy was a quitter do you think we would be half as succesful as we aregoing to be.
There is going to be some humble pie eaten on this board, and I am sure you will all be happy to eat some.
As for Jay, good luck fella.
SO much TALLENT !!!
So LITTLE MOTIVATION !!!
I wonder how many times that has been said of JB ?
Farewwell and good luck ( something you will need in spades JB )
You lot have short memories and idiotic minds. Good luck jay, you did us well in the last two seasons. Pity MM decided to play you out of position.
71 - my prediction is that we will be in the prem and you won’t.
