Walsall talking with mystery striker

wd2813244jimmy-1-nb-23.jpgWalsall boss Jimmy Mullen is holding talks with a mystery striker over a move to the Banks’s Stadium.

Mullen revealed he is close to landing a new forward to bolster his attacking options, after his team’s 3-2 friendly defeat to Villa last night.

The Saddlers chief also plans discussions with a midfielder “in the next few days” – also admitting neither players are trialists currently at the club.

He said: “I still think we need a midfield player and I still think we need a striker. They are certainly two positions I think we need to work on.

“I am speaking to someone regarding the striking position. I will be speaking to someone in the next few days regarding the midfield position.”

“There may be one or two casualties from this group that played against Villa but that was the idea in the first place.

“On top of the trialists there could be two or three more signings.”

I watched last nights friendly against the Villa and was very impressed with the passing & movement by the Walsall players.I thought the front players had good games and the midfield lads looked very sharp.I am still a little uncertain that we are ok at the back, as while the full backs & Gerard did ok the new lad in the centre of defence didnt seem too commanding. In saying that its early days so its probably a little unfair to judge at the moment.I think Jimmy Mullen should definately sign up some of the triallists - they are better than what was here last season apart from DAN & FOX. Its interesting to see that there are discussions ongoing for a striker & midfield player — well done Jimmy as we were not good in these areas last season. However sign up the front pair on view last night plus the midfield lad and we are on the move.
