Wolves’ club reporter  John Hendley’s enthusiasm for football knows no bounds.

Last night, he ventured off in search of some action, catching a friendly between Stenhousemuir against groundsharers East Stirling, a journey of some 10 miles.

Getting there in good time, he had a wander into the bar then the ground, which he found off a track.

Everywhere he went seemed quiet but, in the knowledge that the crowd would only number a few hundred at best, he thought little more of it.

On entering the ground, he counted 36 people and, as he began to get more curious, asked which team was which.

It was only at that point that he was told the game he was watching was actually a Stenhousemuir select XI against Newcastle United – a local junior side.

‘Foz’, as he is universally known, then telephoned some friends from Wolverhampton, who he was under the impression were going to be at the game.

He was told by his mates that the game he wanted to see had actually taken place the night before.

Diligent as ever, ‘Foz’ had checked the club’s website for details, but they hadn’t updated so he didn’t know the match had already been played. Undeterred, he asked his mate where they were and was told Falkirk.

‘Foz’ was informed by one of the 36-strong crowd that Falkirk was ‘only five minutes away’ and set off. Twenty five minutes later, he arrived at his destination.

Yet every cloud it seems has a silver lining and Foz didn’t just arrive in time for kick-off. He also was there to see former Wolves defender Jackie McNamara play for Falkirk against Ross County ,following his move from Aberdeen.

Back on the training pitch, Jody Craddock had a less than pleasurable session yesterday.

A flailing boot accidentally caught the experienced defender in the nether regions and Craddock was left grounded, in some discomfort.

Concerned team-mates quickly converged on the stopper. He eventually got to his feet, albeit gingerly.

Watching Mick McCarthy so far has reminded me why former boss Glenn Hoddle was never able to connect with Wolves fans, largely because he never felt it a necessary part of his job to do so.

The same criticism can’t be levelled at his successor McCarthy.

Unlike Hoddle, whose closest contact to the area was an occasional stopover at a flat in Solihull, not only did McCarthy quickly settle into the Wolverhampton suburbs but he is more than happy to meet and greet his public.

McCarthy has never worried about meeting with the supporters who can sometimes pile the pressure upon his shoulders.

He never dodges them, and is always happy to treat those supporters with the respect they deserve.

Yesterday, McCarthy welcomed a coachload of Wolves supporters to the training session.

Afterwards, he led the squad for a chat and autograph session with the fans. He and the players were more than happy to pose for photographs with them.

Critics have accused Wolves of poor public relations in the past but there can be no such complaints directed to McCarthy.

He truly is a man of the people.

Exactly the way it should be! Footballers think they are god, the way they stroll around in their posh cars, but when it comes down to it they are just ordinary people who kick a bit of leather round for 20 years, then retire. Why shouldn’t they give other human beings the same respect?!

As for Hoddle…my gosh. Appointing that bloke was the biggest mistake the club ever made. He undid so much work at the club and pushed us so far back it was unbelievable!

Too right - MM doesn’t often get the credit he deserves so it’s nice to hear him being congratulated for his rapport with the supporters. He is basically a nice guy and a good manager - the players like and respect him, and therefore want to play for him.

Yes he showed the fans a hell of a lot of respect by refusing to take part in the end of season ‘lap of honour’ after the Plymouth game!

Or was that just because he knows he messed up!

Yes Crap players who failed last year

4 Spot On! MM = If and when it suits him
A bit like the stats article in the E&S that proves MM right re:77 passes blah blah

NB* Politicians use stats as often as a certain Hamburger chain sells burgers - whoppee - now thats a surprise!

Last season was probably the MOST BORING football that most Wolves fans witnessed EVER - With of course the exception of a hand full of games!

MM thinks we are Nuggetts (Wolves fans) and we all know that under pressure MM spouts off
Now MM is “friend of the fans”???

    LOL ;-)

NB* Someone at the Mol is desperately trying to get MM a massive PR job! MM & Moxey a marriage made at the Mol!

McCarthy’s record is no better than Hoddle’s. Try looking at the past few season’s finishing positions. McCarthy has also spent far more than Hoddle. Reporters love him because he gives them stuff to write about. It doesn’t get us out of this division though does it?

  9. Malvern Wolf said:

Yes Baggy 1 we were crap last year but we only lost one more game than you so how good does that make you? Slightly less crap I would suggest, no more no less.

I hope wolves do well this year - not going up is not the end of the world - but not trying and not giving it your all is…….
All I want is a team that will give 101%, that is all you can ever ask.
Get out there and support the team.

When the Thick Mick refused to do the ‘lap of honour’, we knew it was all over. He didn’t give a f*** about us supporters. We would have given him the benefit of the doubt, he would have been applauded, after-all we are Wolves, but he didn’t give a t*ss about us, just skulked and strode away!

The happy clappers who listen to Beacon Radio wouldn’t even know about this!

Now the day of reckoning will arrive! Sooner or later, he will have a bad time, and the supporters on the ground will not have sympathy with this arrogant turnip head.

As you sow, so shall you reap!

Respect…. “nuggets” “Chest thumpers” “it’s the fans fault”…. yeah he really “respects” the fans.

And all those boos and jeers and “MM out” chants last season - yep its a real love in at the custard bowl….

Business as usual at the wolves i see - papering over the cracks AGAIN !!
