Wolves fitness coach Tony Daley had an unexpected surprise when he arrived at the team hotel.
Guests often like to make the most of their facilities when they go away. Daley got more than he bargained for after being thrown in the hotel swimming pool by the players – completely fully clothed!
Whether the players’ actions were retribution for the gruelling schedule the former Wolves, Villa and England winger has put them through is anyone’s guess.
Yet as the man charged with their fitness, he’s in a great position to get his own revenge!
After checking into our hotel and tucking into our evening meal – more of that later – intrigue got the better of us and we ventured down to the team headquarters . . . eventually.
Unconvincing directions from a hotel barman proved less than accurate and instead of approaching a leafy, luxury hideaway, we found ourselves driving through a council estate.
A U-turn later and we were back on the right road. When we got to the Wolves HQ, the contrast couldn’t have been sharper.
On getting directions to the bar, we were greeted by a pianist in full evening dress tinkling the ivories on a grand piano.
Not surprisingly, the elegant surroundings were reflected in the cost of the drinks – £4.30 for a pint and a lemonade.
While our own surroundings are very pleasant, our first evening meal didn’t quite go down as well.
You wouldn’t have thought a simple spaghetti carbonara would cause too many digestive problems.
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Express & Star photographer Gavin Dickson was left with the morning after the meal.
Within a few miles of the hotel lies some of the most stunning history and scenery Scotland has to offer – Stirling Castle, the Firth of Forth and the Forth Road Bridge and the National Wallace Monument, the tribute to Scottish freedom fighter Sir William Wallace.
Based in Grangemouth, our skyline is dominated by cooling towers, chimneys and refineries.
No wonder all the guidebooks offer so many other places to go!

Tony Daley - Fitness coach…..says everything about the way the club is run
wolveswolves - comments like that show how thick some of our fans are. Tit
Re 1 - you’re an idiot.
wolveswolves, shut it, the fact hes spent time with fitness coach’s for most of his career means hes prob got that bit more experience, give him a chance aye,
As a player he was unfortunate to suffer from so many injuries. Since retiring he has trained and is qualified as a fitness coach…how good he is I don’t know, but whether he is good or bad it will have nothing to do with the injuries he collected as a player………so what’s your point ‘wolveswolves’!!!!!
Sure - Daley had his fair share of injuries - but why does that mean he cant be a decent fitness coach?
Or was this yet another chance for a moronic element of the clubs fanbase to have a pop?
tony daley’s injuries have nuffin to do with his fitness coaching!!! the bloke is built like a boxer! muscles on muscles!
wolveswolves please get a life-wolves is 1 of the best run clubs in the country-fact!
The fact that Mick allowed his players to throw Dales into the pool speaks volumes. They’ve obviously got no respect for to management team, and who could blame them? Those bar prices are also indicative of the divide between the players and the fans IMO/IMV.
wolveswolves because you have injuries doesn’t mean your not a fit person, daley knwos everything there is too know abotu injuries and he knwos how far to psuh players.
its a shame we have too many fans like you. A bloody fool!
6 good posts and one idiot, I suppose that ratio is not too bad.
Well, everyone is right and we are all in harmony, wolveswolves you are negative plonker that has no right to call yourself a wolves fan, get a life
no wonder jay wont go…wud you on £8000 a week for doing nowt…grazy world we live in,,,,,,,,
I wish yo lot wud shut up orange and black for the title
Post 12 - It is indeed a Grazy world. My cows love it
re:no1 you utter utter clown how stupid do you look now and i’ll send you this at the end of the season too, all the players and staff have remarked on how FIT everyone returning from mid season is you clown, grow up, pheww thats better up the wolves
One thing you have right is the “Spegetti”-Comments at the start of this Blogg are uncalled for whoever you are crawl back under that stone you came out of-The tour is surely about bonding sorting out tactics and trying to find the right mix-Please keep on with your reports back and lets igonore these so called fans who make such bland abusive remarks–March on you Wolves through the Lochs and Glenns cometh the storm you will prevail–Robbie Burns or was it Robbie Keane–Crazy Dave.
1 - Grow up!!
8 - If £4.30 for a Pint and a Lemonade is expensive to you please tell me where you drink as that sounds like a good deal to me!! I use to work in a 4* hotel in Rochdale which was regularly used by footballers (inc Michael Rickets when first joined Oldham!!) and it was £3 for a Lemonade and £2.95 for a Carling!!!
Any way back to the Wolves - lets be posiive, who knows this might be our year!! If we are negative from the start however it definatly will not be!!!
Ref 1 - I Always appreciate a honest loyal football fan, wolveswolves. Well done you. Don’t take the criticism from your fellow Wolves commentors on this page to heart. Give it till Christmas, when you’re about eleventh place in the league, playing long ball defensive, boring football and you’re all calling for “Mad Mick’s” head again, then we’ll see how the club’s being run.
Amateur video, pretty pointless, tell us something we don’t know. Was like listening to an Elton John song, boring! Too busy reading his notes off the back of a mangel.
Pleased for Litts though!
No 1 get a job instead of sitting around moaning about things you have no idea about, how fit are you????????? pie muncher
wolveswolves you really are crazy. You know nothing. Tony Daley IS a professional fitnees coach.
Your prejudice stands out a mile
All I want is the best, fitest 11 your can get on the field working as a team.
I don’t care if a little green man trains them….
post 8 - I think you must have spent too much time in travel lodges, the drinks prices are typical of most hotels you go too!. Post 1 - another example of stupid fans thinking that the way a footballer is on a field is the same as they will perform as a coach or manager
you clowns are more or less starting the season with the same team that failed last season,
staying down the Mad MM way, never mind you all seem to think that S Ward is now a great player.
19-He is not a Television Star-What do you expect a PERFECT PERFORMANCE-He is a reporter yes but he is a Wolves Fan and he appears to give an accurate report back–Cert ainly better that the people who report on WM. Why do we not get our reports anymore on the WOLF -Does anybody know–Crazey Dave
wolveswolves has been posting here for years, suddenly all these new names that have never posted before are dumping on him for speaking ablout a topic that has worried the regular posters here for years, namely, the high rate of injuries the Wolves seem to pick up.
Tony Daley carries the responsibility, and a number of regular posters worry that he is not up to it.
However, this season looks as though it’s starting differently, with players returning fetter than ever. Let’s hope that it is a turn-around with the undeniable Wolves fitness problems of the past.
