Three or four Championship clubs could be prepared to dash Leeds’ bid to sign Wolves outcast Jay Bothroyd.
Leeds have had a bid rising to £300,000 agreed with Wolves, but the 26-year-old transfer-listed striker is in no hurry to leave.
The Elland Road club – managed by Bothroyd’s former Coventry team-mate, Gary McAllister – are believed to have offered to pay Bothroyd around half of his estimated £8,000 weekly wages.
Now Mick McCarthy has revealed there is plenty of other interest in the player.
He said: “There’s a bit of interest in him – Leeds certainly had an interest – and three or four Championship clubs have enquired about him.
“I don’t know who has agreed terms, but three or four Championship clubs have mooted an interest, some more than others.
“It’s up to him – he can go, he’s not playing here.”
Bothroyd, who has been excluded from Wolves’ pre-season trip to Scotland, has been told he has no part in Wolves’ future.
McCarthy won’t be rushing the player into a decision.
He said: “I’m not his agent, his dad or him – it’s not down for me to pick and choose clubs for him.
Another player transfer listed, midfielder Darren Potter, is only just recovering from a chest infection so is likely to go nowhere fast.
He said: “He only came back last week. He’s training back home and won’t be coming here.”
