Mark Little is ready to push Kevin Foley all the way in the battle for the Wolves’ right-back role.
That’s the verdict of boss Mick McCarthy and first choice Foley, after Little produced another impressive performance in yesterday’s 1-0 friendly win over Dundee.
McCarthy has fielded completely different teams in each half of the three senior friendlies so far. Molineux Academy graduate Little has been one of the more consistent performers.
Little spent much of last season on loan at Northampton, as Foley established himself in the No 2 role after his £700,000 move from Luton.
He said: “I thought Mark Little did very well. I’ve been pleased with some of them and there have been some good performances.
“They all know they’re fighting for places – I don’t have to go around emphasising that.”
Foley echoed those sentiments, admitsting that Little is breathing down his neck for a shirt.
He said: “He’s still young but I see him in training every day and in the matches. He will definitely be challenging me for a place.”
“The gaffer said to me at the start of last season that I was coming in to challenge for a place and I was OK with that.
“He’s come back this pre-season a better player and that’s what you want.”
