A speed camera in Staffordshire has raked in over £1 million in fines from motorists ignoring a temporary speed limit.
The camera, on the A38 Rykneld Street, in Lichfield, flashed 15,300 drivers in just one year it has been revealed.
This means the camera dished out a total of 45,900 licence points to drivers.
It has been placed on the stretch of road where a 40mph temporary speed limit has been imposed.
Lichfield district council leader David Smith, who is a serving magistrate, today described the figure as “staggering” and called for better signage.
He said: “Lichfield District Council is not a beneficiary of this money and I find the sum of £1million staggering.
“This camera does not seem to be solving the problem because people are ignoring it.”

Wotcha.
“This camera does not seem to be solving the problem because people are ignoring it.”
Who cares ?
It’s all about the money.
We should start using the term “SCAMERA” for these devices.
The usual sheep will bleat about “safety” but its really about Labour extorting money from motorists by every means available.
No point in moaning it about..if you speed you get caught…who controls the cars engine and speed …NOT THE CAMERA..THE DRIVER!!
So whos fault is it.?
