Baggies look for six new captures

mowbray2.jpegWest Brom boss Tony Mowbray today targeted half-a-dozen more summer signings as he admitted Robert Koren may miss the start of the season.

Mowbray’s hunt for an extra midfielder has intensified as Koren battles to recover from knee trouble in time for the August 16 Premier League opener at Arsenal.

But he has revealed he is still looking for new faces throughout the team after adding Gianni Zuiverloon, Marek Cech and Scott Carson already.

“We’re maybe looking at another five or six players,” said Mowbray. “A lot of conversations have been had and a lot of work going on.

“But it’s very rare you get all the signings you want. We may only get one or two, rather than the five or six.

“I was very happy with the players last season but football doesn’t stand still and we have to keep trying to raise the bar.

“That’s the nature of the industry and while I appreciate what the players did last year it doesn’t mean I’m not trying to improve the football club.”

Meanwhile, Mowbray admitted his fears that Slovenian international Koren may miss the start of a second successive season.

The midfielder suffered a freak eye injury a year ago and was ruled out of the start of the Championship-winning campaign.

And he will undergo scans on Monday after straining medial ligament in his right knee during the 2-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.

to be honest, i think the squad we already have can stay up, but with with a few extra signings, i think that midtable is a real possibility.

I reckon you’ve probably spent all of this seasons transfer budget on a once highly rated goalkeeper (remember Richard Wright?) and some unproven foreigners. Coupled with Moore and Bednar in the squad i can almost hear the other premiership teams quaking in their boots lol. You might need another 6 players but whether you’ll get em is another matter. Please sign one good game in six Olofinjana, that would really make me smile!!

Just love this guy. The best manager we’ve had in ages and totally agree with almost everything he’s ever said.

5 or 6 new signings eh?

    2 X Centre backs
    1 X striker
2 X midfielders?? (a McInnes would be great)

Baggies won’t just survive this season. I think we’ll be safe by maybe march… then end up 12-14thish

Give TOMO a massive contract. I want him here for the next 10 years minimum. If he’s still here by 09/10 i honestly think we’ll be in europe

I think we do need some more good quailty players to add to the squad you do need 23 top players as it’s going to be a hard season a centre half, centre midfielder and a forward are needed the most and with Englands no 1 in goal we will be 12th-16th i hope.

    18. it wasn’t that we couldn’t prise him away from peterborough we just refused to pay the ridiculous asking price you lot however seem to be willing to pay millions of pounds for rejects. the only other team that wanted Carson was Stoke and they pulled out of the deal because he was stalling.
