Michael Kightly insists Wolves fans ‘ain’t seen nothing yet’ as he continues to build towards top form before the big kick-off.
The exciting winger scored a wonder volley in Wednesday’s 3-1 friendly win at Hereford in a bright 45 minutes’ showing.
Kightly signed a new four-year contract this summer. He had been linked with Premier League clubs Everton, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Blackburn.
Fllowing his recovery from a five-month absence with an ankle injury, he is eager to make up for lost time and has hit the ground running in pre-season.
He said: “Hereford was probably the best I’ve done since I came back from injury. I felt sharp and I felt stron. As I get fitter, hopefully I’ll really hit the ground running at the start of the season.
“It takes games to get back into that rhythm but against Hereford I felt it was coming back and we’ve still got a few more games to go.
“Hopefully by August 9 everything will be ready to go.”
Kightly believes that the ankle injury he suffered at the start of the year curtailed his progress upon his return at the back end of last season and is anxious to make amends.
He said: “I was nowhere near how I can play when I came back last season, which is understandable because I’d had so long out.
“I was fairly happy with the way I’d done. I scored against Cardiff and was involved in a few goals.
“But I wasn’t anywhere near the level I can be. It does take time to get used to getting back into the right positions, timing your run or playing people in.”
Kightly is one of Wolves’ main routes to goal but his full-blooded angled strike at Edgar Street was arguably his best for the club.
He said: “It was a nice finish. I think about 10 minutes before one came over like that and I’d taken a touch so the second time I thought I’d just hit it on the volley.
“Hopefully I’ll have a few more of them to come in more important games.”

Last season he was below par, even before he got injured. And to reward that we give him a new contract?
He needs to step up this season, but he knows that if we don’t get up he’ll be off so won’t impact him at the end of the day.

I think you doubters are well out of order. Without him alot of the time last season we were made to look a distinctly average team. I know one man doesn’t make a team, but damn this guy has a lot of affect on us!

Anyone who says he was below par last season didn’t see his performance against Bristol City. He was doged by injury last season, and came back too early too many times.
