Andy Keogh has made his peace with Wolves fans and insists the time has now come for the team to ‘talk the talk’ by winning promotion.
The Irish striker irritated some of the Molineux public in May when he said he’d ‘do it for the real fans’ after supporters vented their frustrations during games.
The 22-year-old now admits the fans have a vital role to play but knows the team must do their talking on the pitch.
He said: “The fans know how important they are and they know how much we love playing for the club.”
“There has been enough talk – we just need to show them, we need to walk the walk and stop talking the talk. It’s all down to what happens on the pitch.
“The fans here are brilliant and they have been great with me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can make their own decisions.
“I said what I said in relation to the booing when Neill Collins came on as substitute against Cardiff and we were 3-0 up.
“If someone has a moan or a groan, then fair enough, the fans can do what they want. Booing for non-football reasons is silly but it’s over and done with now.
“People need to stand up and be counted. I for one am going to be one of them this season.”
Keogh’s first club Leeds have agreed a fee with Wolves for his strike partner Jay Bothroyd rising to £300,000 – yet Wolves still doubt whether the deal will go ahead.
Despite being told he has no more part to play in Wolves’ plans, the 26-year-old – who has a year to run on his contract – can’t decide whether to go to Elland Road or stay put.
Much of the fee is appearances-related, yet Bothroyd is likely to stay after rejecting an earlier offer to an unnamed club earllier this summer.
It has also emerged that Charlton enquired about Wolves defender Darren Ward, as part of the Chris Iwelumo transfer, before changing their minds.
Ward remains transfer-listed but has played a part in both friendlies and is set to join Wolves’ tour of Scotland.

Andy lad, youve no need to apologise mate, its the negative numptys that continue to slate every move or comment wolves make that need to get a grip and get behind you all, even if they dislike you, at the end of the day you play in our colours so they really ought to support and praise you guys at every opportunity.

Keogh only had a pop at the moaners and groaners, and he was quite entitled to do so - therefore, he shouldn’t feel the need to apologise in any way. If they feel they can boo players just because they pay money to watch, then the players should also be able to criticise if certain sections of the crowd are unjustifiably targeting individuals on the pitch. Anyway, the genuine fans are right behind you Andy - we can see what you give to the team and your importance is not underestimated by the majority. Keep doing what you do and hopefully we will all be celebrating come next May.
PS - if the reports are true, then Bothroyd should be ashamed of himself - if he is getting the opportunity to play regularly at Leeds then he should bite their hands off, rather than be a perpetual reserve player at Wolves. Lets hope we can offload this guy from the payroll ASAP… MM isn’t going to play him so if he wants to further his footballing career then he ought to realise a move away is in his best interests.

Good on you Andy! I agreed when you said ‘do it for the real fans’, those that turn up and support the team, rather than moan about ‘Muppet Mick’ and how Freddy should have a stand named after him. But to go back on it and say this takes courage.
The Keogh-Freddy debate is now over, but the SEB-Keogh partnership(with CI & SV) on the bench should work a treat next season.

I just hope that we have seen the last of this mentality.
Regarding Bothroyd, this just confirms his attitude. He’s sooner sit on his backside and waste a year of his career seeing out his contract than play first team football…sounds like another eastwood.

I like Andy Keogh. I think he is an outstanding player. If he could add a few goals to his game he would be worth millions.
If we can keep him, kites, Jarvo, SEB, Dave Edwards and the rest of our young and hungry team fit this term we will upset a few people and, with a fair wind, reach the promised land.
A big key to this will be the boo-boys in the Jack Harris keeping their idiot gobs shut and protecting the fragile confidence of our kids.
So, if you’ve nothing positive to say - say nothing!!

As a fan I feel somewhat embarrassed when a player as committed as Andy Keogh feels the need to apologise in any shape or form.
He’s a great player and I’m behind him 100%, as so should every other Wolves fan, particularly on match days!
I plead with all Wolves fans to stay positive this season, and let’s hope we get back where we belong, the Premier League!

#8 RW. I agree with 90% of your comments, but it might help if we [the supporters] refrained from this endless use of the term “where we belong”. We have no more right to be there than the likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City or Accrington Stanley for that matter. Promotion is earned over the course of the season.

Don’t take it personally Andy its just some of us are miserable…years of under achievement that’s what does it. Whilst the top 4 teams waltz away with everything, we used to be there…that’s where the attitude comes from, i don’t condone it for one minute buts its historical, the reasons why some of us are so miserable.I think Andy had a good season and his desire is evident. Good players score goals…Andy is a good player and hopefully this season with more luck he’ll hit the target more often.

Re 7 - I don’t think anyone could ever argue that Neill Collins is the best defender that we have ever seen playing for the club, but he is wholehearted and willing to learn - added to that, he is passionately committed to the club and even for that alone, he does not deserve to be booed by his own supporters.
There’s a saying that springs to mind, and it is ‘pi$$ing on your chips’ - slating your team’s own players is never anything but counter-productive.

Get behind the lads through thick and thin or “SOD OFF”.
We are going through an average time at the moment and we seem in a state of transition. Get behind the steady build and stop expecting successin minutes. This is not “championship manager 08″ it is real life with real people with real emotions. And on top of that players can improve. Ward and Collins were slated last year, I for one hope they ram those words down peoples throats.

Neill Collins was very poor last season but should never have been booed. It’s probably the same ‘hen pecked’ so called Wolves fans who used to get on Osborn and Naylor’s backs.
Anyway for the positive proper Wolves fans… I was at a do last night and European Cup Winner, Andy Blair was there and he said Wolves will go up as Champions this season!

Keogh was absolutely superb first season. Yes his form dipped last season but hey so did a lot of players last season when compared with the first season under McCarthy. What we need to do as supporters is breath confidence into these young and talented bunch of players rather than look to knock them at every turn.
I thought towards the end of last season Andy was getting back to the sort of form we know he is capable of, inspite of the knockers. I for one think the guys a real talent and so does his international manager by all accounts.
Dave Vincent - behave! Neil Collins is not “absolutely hopeless”. Yes he makes mistakes and gave a few penalties away but he also scored goals that won us 3 pts last season. Take off your blinkers man! What you cannot fault is the guys commitment and actually I think he’s a good squad/utility player to have around.
You were probably one of those so called supporters who were directing some quite frankly disgusting and nasty vitriol towards the likes of Keogh, Collins, Bothroyd et al
last season. I think the stewards should eject fans who make such abusive personal attacks. In some cases it was almost as bad as making racist remarks which thankfully is no longer tolerated in football stadiums.

30, yes have been match in, match out, and i agree it was a bit rubbish last year but all i was saying is that there is no need for negative slating when they havent even kicked a ball in the league yet let them have a few games and if its still rubbish then the inquests and finger pointing can begin, as for you SBBA , you have no idea how many years ive been a season ticket holder so what entitles you to call me a non-supporter? one thing you will never hear me doing is BOOING, yes ,i admit i will shout and moan about some things during a match, we all do, but i am a person who believes in giving chances before criticising, so get used to me!!!

People started having a go against Keogh because his goalscoring record was poor. But no team managed by MM will ever score a lot of goals and to get double figures as support striker in a low scoring team is no bad deal.
I think Keogh is a real asset and all of Wolves best performances over the last two seasons have been when he has been in the team. I hope it’s Keogh partnered with SEB when the season starts at Plymouth.

39) When Sunderland got promoted as Champions they scored 76 and conceded 41 and got 94 points. Good enough. We are capable with the 5 strikers available of scoring that and more.
Top 6 is minimum. Top 2 is within our grasp, if we sign another defender and a midfielder!

39 Agreed Problem is that we sit far too deep and expect the strikers to act as additional midfield players - not down to players but more down to tactics or lack of them!
We now have a glut of players that are surplus to requirements but are not being managed by MM as he is just looking the other way - if the likes of Bothroyd dont want to join Leeds that is entirely up to him, maybe it would have been better to send him out on loan to Leeds with a view to a move - using some more pursuasive tactics - but instead the powers that be think that its far better to “bully them out of the club” - What MM and Moxey have to realise is that these players have to actually care in the first place - they dont - they have contracts for 2 or 3 years and can/ probably will sit around doing next to nothing and pick up their wage packets - who was it that brought them in???
Elliott should have been brought in on loan - not given a contract - now who wants him???
Potter, Bothroyd given generous contracts by MM and Moxey - Potter unknown at the time fair comment - Bothroyd??? How many other players do we have at the club that no-one wants?
Why are these players still at the club? Why have they not been given free transfers if they are not wanted? Will we lose most of promising academy youngsters as a result of no reserve team and not much propect of being given a chance?
Someone said that we have the most number of international youngsters in our academy - What hope do these lads have of progression in a club that is now becoming “bottle necked” with has beens and wannebes (Micks Chosen Few) aka (Micks Unwanted Mistakes)

I’m against booing but beleive that most of the boos last season were about MM decisions when bringing players on and off. Not the players themselves.
We were cruising against Cardiff when 3-0 up and could easily have won 5-0. What was the goal difference at the end of the season? No wonder MM says he never looks at the tables.

It’s great to read so many positive posts about keogh. He’s a decent lad and even if he improved his chance rate 10% he would get a fistful of goals.

One final worry was that we made a lot of chances against hereford and didn’t take them. the team must really work on this. We miss far too many and it cost us dearly last season - just two miserable goals short…

We have a serious problem at the club with a squad that is big and needs to be trimmed to get rid of the “unwanted” players that MM brought in
We also have talented youngsters who should be brought on from the academy - these are the future prospects - and how old is old enough? - just look at Rooney etc
No good using the old chestnut excuse of “not enough experience etc”
Sheff Wed have an 18 year old that was given the chance - why not our academy youngsters -Good enough to be young internationals but not good enough to be part of Wolves squad? Or sent out on loan to get first team experience?
Instead we have N Collins D Ward S Elliott ???

If we loyal fans get served up the same garbage as we suffered last season, then expect the criticism to get worse!
All the happy-clappers above are the ones who want this rubbish management period to continue. Obviously they watch the team from the sofa, because anybody who saw this cr*p would know why there are so many critics.

Eddie, you have no idea what I know and can’t judge from the comments I’ve made. I really would love to see him score 20+ plus goals next year (and he has my full support when he’s on the pitch)but he missed an awful lot of good chances last year and if you watch the dvd of the highlights of the previous season he missed a fair few then as well (and that’s only on the highlights). My prediction is that he won’t score many this season either. Let’s give it six months and if I am wrong I will unreservedly apologise and admit I know nothing about football.
