Walsall chairman Jeff Bonser has revealed he expects “at least three more faces” to arrive in the next 7-10 days.
Bonser admits strikers are now the priority for boss Jimmy Mullen and he confirmed the club are currently in talks with two trialists, although he
refused to name who they are.
Mullen has begun the work of rebuilding the squad he inherited from Richard Money by bringing Sofiene Zaaboub, Dwayne Mattis, Steve Roberts and Jabo
Ibehre to the Banks’s Stadium.
Saddlers supremo Bonser believes the quartet represent quality additions and has promised more will arrive before the start of the season.
He said: “I dont think fans will be disappointed with who we have signed at the moment in terms of the players we have brought in.
“Obviously we need some strikers and I can assure them there will some strikers there, a couple.
“We need two or three new signings before the season starts. We have had a lot of trialists, we have still got a lot of trialists in and we are talking to a couple at the moment, with a view to them staying at the club.
“Certainly we need two strikers in so i can see at least three more faces appearing on the books in the next 7-10 days.”
Mullen’s men travel to Unibond Northern League Premier Division side Rushall Olympic for tomorrow’s 3pm friendly with the squad expected to be made up of youth-team players, young professionals and trialists.
The club have already passed the 2,000 mark in season ticket sales and Bonser is hopeful they can break the 2,400 mark achieved last summer.
He said: “I’m hoping so. Obviously we will be signing some more players and just before the season starts we usually have a surge in sales.
“Hopefully we can go into the new season with plenty of optimism. I thank the fans very much for their support, it is absolutely vital to the club and at the end of the day, all of their money goes towards the playing side.
“If we get the season off to a good start we might attract a few more doubters.”
