Koren injured as Albion lose

587albion-16-dh-6.jpgAlbion have suffered an injury scare after key midfielder Robert Koren limped out of their opening friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Slovenian jarred his knee in last night’s 2-1 defeat and is waiting to find out if he has strained ligaments. He could miss several of the remaining pre-season fixtures if the club’s worst fears are confirmed.

“If it is anything it is a very slight medial ligament strain and we took precautions by taking him off,” said manager Tony Mowbray.

“If it is a strain it will only be a few weeks out but let’s just wait and see.

“He may not make Saturday’s game but hopefully he will be fine to continue preparations soon.”

However, Mowbray is hoping the close season dedication Koren showed before the start of pre-season training will pay dividends if he is sidelined.

The manager said: “He started three weeks before everybody else because he had his own personal trainer back in Slovenia and he has come back super-fit.

“It won’t damage his preparation. He is already fit and ready to go so if you were going to pick somebody to get injured it might have been him.

“Nobody wants to get injured but Robert is fit and in good shape and that should speed his recovery.

“There were plenty of positives from the game. The negatives were that Robbie Koren might have got a slight tweak in his medial ligaments in a challenge.

“Jonathan Greening has got a kick on his calf but hopefully he will be fine for Saturday and everybody else came through okay.”

New signing Marek Cech watched from the stands last night as Albion lost. He will train again today as he plays catch-up in the fitness stakes but he is again unlikely to figure in the second and final friendly of Albion’s European trip in Euskirchen, Germany, on Saturday.

“We might include him in a small amount of the game but probably not,” said Mowbray. “It isn’t really fair to thrown people in when they have only had two or three days of training in a game against a fairly decent team.”

I’ve seen all of the match reports.

Why are we playing Dean Kiely for 90 mins ??

Surely we must be giving Danek as much game time as possible.

I don’t get that one at all.

Saying Luke Moore is supposed to be our secret weapon for next year, he didn’t seem to feature much in the match report. I think Kim is gonna be ace next year but I think we still need at least another keeper, a mid-fielder and a striker. Seams strange to me that danek is never utilised.

What you say about Luke Moore is interesting, ‘he didn’t feature much in the match report.’ Neither did a number of other players. This can mean any number of things. The reporter was in the bar for most of the game. The reporter didn’t know who he was. He worked hard but no chances dropped to him. It’s along the same lines of fans who think KP should have been kept on at any cost. What we’ve achieved under TMs management team is based on team work and team spirit. The days when it was a disaster if our star player left are gone. The whole is more important than the individual. As long as LM keeps working hard it doesn’t matter who scores and if the fans are patient instead of willing him to fail because he’s ex Villa then he will come good. He’s one of us now.

Apparently Luke Moore was brilliant last night - that’s from somebody who went.
We missed quite a few chances apparently, no need to worry TM said he wasn’t looking for a good performance or a result it was just about letting every player have a run out.
